Spending Review
http://www.adifferentleague.co.uk/p6_1_6983_club-focus-%E2%80%93-manchester-city-%E2%80%93-transfer-spending-under-review-in-abu-dhabi.html
Weekend reports emanating from the Middle East have indicated that Manchester City´s extravagant spending in a bid to break into the Premier League top four could be coming under scrutiny if success is not forthcoming. According to the Daily Express there is serious unease in Abu Dhabi at the way in which owner Sheikh Mansour´s money has been used in the transfer market in recent months, particularly with regard to the signings of Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli. The £27m purchase of Dzeko from Wolfsburg especially is being seen – even at this early stage in the player´s City career when he has yet to settle – as profligacy on the part of manager Roberto Mancini. The Bosnian forward had hitherto gained a reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe but there have even been suggestions, since denied, that some members of the first-team squad believe his first touch is not what it should be for a player at the highest level.
Balotelli, on the other hand, is a different case in point. The Italian has suffered a stop-start beginning to life at Eastlands since a £24m move from Inter Milan and despite 6 goals in 12 league appearances his behaviour both on and off the field has largely overshadowed his footballing ability. The 20-year-old is viewed as one of the hottest young strikers around but opinion among City supporters is divided. The club’s owners are also asking questions as to whether they have paid way over the top for him, and Mancini will be told in no uncertain terms that money cannot continue to be wasted.
Since the Abu Dhabi United Group bought the club in September 2008 there has been £408m invested in transfers, with the current squad valued at around £250m. Not all the shortfall is down to Mancini, with his predecessor Mark Hughes having spent a good part of it on players such as Roque Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge that were disappointing to say the least. If the dream of Champions League football eventually does become a reality then clearly a massive amount of money will have been written off in the pursuit of it.
However, the club’s football administrator Brian Marwood says City are only trying to catch up with the big teams that have previously spent lavishly: “Sheikh Mansour and those involved want to be in it for the long haul,” he said. “They want to put a structure in place, one they can enjoy for a number of years.”
These stories have emerged at a time when the Blues’ boss will come under increasing pressure during the run-in to the end of the season, more so since he is believed to have asked for another £100m to spend on players in the summer. If a fourth-place finish is not achieved then it remains to be seen if there will be another huge outlay, and if there were one would imagine it would need to be done with a new manager at the helm.

Re: Spending Review
Lets face it, we've all dreamt of playing fantasy football, doing it in the real world with coold hard cash does have more scrutiny on it..
There is some crap in the squad, or a couple who will need to be promtly "moved on" in the summer... (another thread on here with that)..
We should not be scared to get some bright youngsters in and around the likes of Tevez, Silva etc.. I'd seriously have a good look at Phillips at Blackpool...
That lad was lightning when we played them, with a bit more culture and some crossing prcactice, that lad would solve many problems for us... and cheap...
