Re: How much is Mangala worth?
As much as anyone is prepared to pay which in all honesty dawg wasn't just City. Now if the manager is as bad as everyone seems to think, could it be the reason for Mangala's patchy preformances. I, as you know don't think he is as bad as some are making out, but he does not start regularly enough, & could well be a rejuvenated player in a different system.

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
I personally think he was a complete and utter waste of money....although playing him along side Vinny at the moment isn't really helping his confidence. For the money paid, i'd expect him to be playing week in week out, yet a 34yr old regularly gets picked before him.....that says it all for me.
Whether he turns out to be a world beater i guess only time will tell, i just expected him to be alot better than he's currently showing.

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
Mangala ain't worth tuppence ha'penny. He may get better like Boateng did and prove me wrong, but I doubt it.
There's a few young, good defenders out there who are more proven and less costly than Mangala such as Hummels and Varanne. We've seriously been mugged with Managala.
We kicked a good squad player in Joleon out and shifted a promising young player in Nastasic and saddled ourselves with an expensive import that is streets below those two.

Mangala will only get better with game time.. stick him in left centre back from now until end of the season.
Maybe next year Vinny will buck up to play RCB...

I think he will get better but I doubt whether he'll ever be 'good enough'

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
Lescott was shit. He's fucking useless at WBA now.
Mangala has hardly played and rarely has he had 2 games in a row. We may as well say "Bony's a shit player"...
It's the Managers fault.
From the start he should've just said "right, this is my best defence. You all start until an injury or a cup game"
But no, he's fucked around with the team every single week.

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
That's unfair on Lescott. He wasn't 'fucking useless' when WBA had a good defensive run not so long ago with several clean sheets. He has tons more work to do at WBA than he had at City, though he did make a mistake or two every game when with us.
Mangala gets himself out of position, plays people onside, gets skinned far too easily etc. for my liking. You can't just blame it on the manager. You can have a shitty manager with shitty motivational skills and shitty tactics, but your performance is mainly down to you.
Bony has been injured. Haven't you noticed?

That was sort of my point Dawg.
If they don't play regularly, how is it possible to have an objective opinion on a player who is new at the club?

If that's the case - why is Pep paid £16m pa? Why is Ancelotti paid so handsomely, or LVG, Mourinho or Pellegrini?
Just give the job to Brian Kidd and save a fortune...then tell the players "if you don't perform well or don't win, it's not my fault, it's yours"

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
Or just don't bother with a manager at all and let the captain handle it.
Sorry Dawg, I'm with Bluey on this one. Pellegrini was brought in to turn us into an outfit that would progress further in the CL, which I guess he's managed, but in order to keep doing it, he's got to actually get us there.
And if the dippers win tonight (and I fully expect them to) then we will be just four points off losing our place altogether. And I don't see that improving at all.

The tactics come from the players or the manager? The performance comes from the player or the manager?

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
Mangala as I keep on stating 9 times out of ten is caught out of position covering left back for the lazy arse that is Kolarov. Check how many times Mangala has played with clichy at left back.
Mangala like Bony has had his injuries also.
Nastasic was terrible last season so much so that he lost his place got some sort of mysterious injury & was never fully fit again, Made his one & only start in the community shield got injured again and was only back to full fitness mid December.
I used to think Lezza was an adequate centre back & preferred him to demi, but a number on here used to lay blame at his feet every time he got a game, I thought when we let him go the manager must have thought the same & so a new centre back was needed.

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
Lescott was OK....i just wouldn't go overboard and say he'd be brilliant back in our team right now, all because Mangala isn't good enough.
As you said Oz, Mangala has rarely played with Clichy and in games where he has played, he always seems to be covering for full backs or a lack of defensive coverage in front.
I just think it's unfair to judge him this season - one, because he's hardly had a run of games, two, because he's picked up an injury which doesn't help and three, because with all players in a new league, new team, it takes at least 10 games plus to start to adapt - and he hasn't had a run of games like that alongside Vinny or DeM.
I read earlier - someone posted about Hummels at £36m being proven. I listened to a German football expert on TS the other day, who stated, "Hummels is half of Dortmunds problems. He's positionally poor, slow and makes reckless tackles".
Mangala could be become a top class CB....give time and games. If he gets a full season and is shit - then criticism will be fair.

Re: How much is Mangala worth?
The manager is responsible for the tactics, communicating these to the players effectively and changing them as and when the game in play dictates. He is also responsible for ensuring the players perform and for challenging them when they don't.Topdawg wrote:The tactics come from the players or the manager? We don't see much of any of this from Pellegrini.
The players should be responsible for their own performance, granted, but it's up to the manager to bollock anyone who isn't pulling their weight. The fact that there's so many swinging the lead right now does tend to lend weight to the argument that Pellegrini isn't sorting out the issues.
I still disagree with you. Sorry.
Well, let's just hope the rags buy him then!!blueboy wrote:I read earlier - someone posted about Hummels at £36m being proven. I listened to a German football expert on TS the other day, who stated, "Hummels is half of Dortmunds problems. He's positionally poor, slow and makes reckless tackles".
