Anyone built a Pizza oven?
I'm about to build an outdoor pizza clay oven. We're having a surprise birthday party for my wife in 2 weeks...was going to get a hog roast delivered, but because I was away, I've gone back to them and they can't do it any more.
Just wanted some advice off anyone who's built one already.
I've got two options....build the clay oven myself, or use terracotta pots, insulated between each other, on top of fire bricks....and build a small brick wall for them to sit on.

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
Or you could try the steel and glass thing that's already in your kitchen?
But seriously, no, I've not built anything like that, so I'm no help. Have you tried searching on google? I'm sure someone will have done this.

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
Thanks for the advice Leo!
Never thought of that glass/steel thing!
Yes, I've done lot's of research...just wanted to know if anybody had done one already - any specific tips when building it.

Was thinking of this....haven't got the time to build a big proper one. Wanted one for ages....and was going to do it anyway for this summer, but with only one week left and I'm busy decorating the house, sorting out music, bales of straw for seats, gazebo's etc...without thinking of the food, it needs to be a day job.

Cheers Moon...but it's not a traditional one. That's more of a BBQ with a roof.
I think I know what I'm doing...but just wondered if anyone had done it before, so had any 'don't do's, do this' kind of tips.
It needs to be able to get seriously hot to make traditional clay oven pizzas, so I think I'll stick with the terracotta pot option and see how it goes.
I'm sure it'll be fine.

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
Well....built it the other day. Not without some difficulties...trial and error, but I made 10 pizzas last night - home-made Italian 00 dough base, olive oil, basil and mozzarella.....must say, absolutely gorgeous and took 90 seconds.
The base of the oven still needs some TLC, tarting up to make it aesthetically nice....but the end product is superb!
My wife's surprise birthday party tomorrow, so I've got my work cut out with a min of 80 people coming - I'll be making pizza dough all bloody night!!

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
Wow...if anybody is thinking of building their own outdoor pizza oven - on the cheap, let me know.
They were amazing!
I go to Altrincham market just for their pizzas - voted amongst the best in the world by The Sunday Times....and I'm not kidding, they were on a par with them.
There is nothing better than making your own Italian pizza dough, topping it off with some Antipasto, Mozzarella, Basil, Olive Oil and Chillies and cooking them inside 90 seconds.
If you fancy having a crack at it, speak to me first (for the cheaper option rather than spending hundreds on getting somebody to build you a big clay oven)...as we had some hiccups along the way, but nothing we couldn't sort out in a few hours.
Somebody took a video of me cooking one...when I get the link I'll post it on here.
We had 6/7 people asking for instructions on how to build it as they wanted to build one...trust me, for 2 days of graft, it's definitely worth it....and it'll cost you around £130.
I cooked a beer-can chicken, dough balls and garlic bread in it last night....gorgeous.

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
I prefer the cheaper option of just popping round yours for my pizza!
90 seconds is ridiculously quick.

90 secs at 350 degrees and made with traditional 00' flour...brilliant! Proper bubbly crust.
Listen, if you're ever in the Chester area....just let me know. Always welcome for a few pizzas!!

Re: Anyone built a Pizza oven?
the only problem is I don't eat cheese, or garlic particularly..
) does look worth it though if you have the space for about 15 cars on your driveway ))
