The 'spine' of big names
Since Mancini's time, we've had a stable spine of big name players. Hart, Kompany, Silva, Toure and Aguero. You could kind of add Zabba to that list as he's been here that long and is through and through City now.
I said many months ago that Pep could be getting rid of the big voices in the dressing room.
Joe Hart certainly was a big voice. Kompany's injuries meant he is more out than in the 1st team (and he's not played since his 90 minutes in the cup). No league matches at all.
Toure was made to shut up and listen and apologise to Pep (kind of) and Guardiola would have let him rot for the rest of the season if that 'sorry' hadn't come. Now he's like a schoolkid that's been severely told off by the teacher and won't step out of line again.
Silva is just quiet and keeps his head down.
And now the Aguero situation. Aguero is one of the most loved players by City fans. But Pep has shown that even he isn't safe from the chop having not started several league games, even when fully fit.
Zabba is likely to not have his contract renewed at the end of the season. The same could happen to Yaya, even with the public positive noises from Pep. Kompany could still get another injury and be finished at City.
It could well be that next season we see a massively different squad to the one that finished last season with several of our stalwarts gone. And Pep will bring in younger players that he feels he can mold and manipulate the way he wants.
