Squad for next year Empty Squad for next year

Post by Paulpowersleftfoot Sat Mar 18, 2017 11:54 pm

Big summer coming up for Pep with plenty needing to be moved on and a squad in desperate need of an overhaul

Contracts up in 2017
Navas - Can't see him getting an extension, let him cross the ball into the defenders shins somewhere else

Yaya - May get a 1 year offer but I really hope not, like to see the back of him and his ponce of an agent

Zabaleta - Although a bit past it he's still comfortably our best full back, which in itself is a disgrace. I'd like to see him get an extension as back up and be an asset in the dressing room

Clichy - Poor left back, get rid
Sagna - See above,offers nothing
Caballero - Not good enough but the best keeper we've got,Bravo's arrival has been the best thing to happen to him.Either willy or Bravo will be off, hopefully it will be the latter so give willy another year and get a decent first choice keeper in
Tosin - Can't see him signing another contract when he will get first team football at a few premier league clubs.Considering how poor our defenders have been it's atrocious that this lad hasn't been given a chance. I fully expect him to be a top class centre half

Contracts up in 2018
Fernandinho Not been anywhere near the form of last season but injuries and a string of red cards have hardly helped. He's very versatile and I think he'll be offered another year

Kolarov - Would never have thought he would still be at the club given how appalling he's been over the last few seasons but Pep has got some decent performances out of him as a centre half, obviously he's still a dog of a left back. Wouldn't be surprised if he got an extension as well

Not getting game time
Delph - sell not good enough
Fernando - sell not good enough
Nolito - keep for another season as a squad filler
Kompany - think he'll be off,Pep won't play him
Iheanacho - wouldn't be surprised to see him go either, doesn't work hard enough so won't get much of a sniff other than the odd cameo off the bench

Players on Loan
Denayer- sell not good enough
Hart-sell,sadly deemed to be not good enough
Nasri-sell-30 in June, no point in bringing him back while he has been in great form at Sevilla and still has some value.
Mangala-sell like a puppy with a balloon,awful footballer
Mooy-sell doing really well at Huddersfield but can't see him ever getting game time at City
Bony-sell/ give away in a raffle, just get rid
Zinchenko- loan out again, probably not PSV as he's hardly played
Moreno-loan out again, not played much as he's had injuries
Unal-loan out again, needs more game time
Maffeo-bring back to the squad as back up but needs to be given a chance, not sure Pep will be any different to pellegrini though
Roberts-loan out again as I can't see him getting many minutes playing time

I think if pep can get in someone like Sanchez then he will cash in on Aguero,he's not the defending from the front type of player that he wants and I can't see him settling for anything less
If he's on a 3 year cycle he really needs to get the ins and outs spot on otherwise we will be also rans again

Can't really argue with that assessment Rich.

Zaba MUST get another year, if only so he gets a testimonial. He'll definitely help any new players transition into the squad and his experience can also be useful in Cup games.

Agree also about Yoyo....wtf has happened where the likes of Otamendi and Sagna get the chance to play at CB ahead of this kid??

One thing that worries me for this season, is that Pep has said on numerous occasions "I like to give young players a chance. If they show me in training, I will play them"

Maybe he doesn't rate them? Maybe Yoyo should have been sent to Breda with the others. He definitely needs to be starting games for someone.

Agree with Maffeo as well...can't see him being number one, so another loan spell beckons.

I'm worried about the kids as well. They've all but disappeared from our squads.

Can only hope that Pep is looking at the U18 lads as his new project...as he he's said that he's very excited about them and 5 or 6 of them will go to the USA with the 1st team this summer.

Who knows what pep is thinking or wants for next season. The more we try & decipher his press conferences, city interviews or press articles the more confusing the outlook appears. since 1st of Feb we have reportedly been in for 56 players. Including various stories about the city youngsters & players already at the club. I have given up trying to look for double meanings or reading between the lines as invariably I will be either disappointed by outcomes or totally wide of the mark, all for no reason.

I focus on who he is picking for the starting XI and who is on the b much and who is left out. That gives us plenty to go on to start with. He hasn't given Todin a sniff regardless of our struggles in defence. He hasn't found any kids to play wide rather than Navas which really is poor.

I very much see us as a five year project for Pep, his pride and reputation will not allow him to walk away after 3 as things stand.  He'e even hinting as much in his pressers I think.

but I still think dawg that he has had to make do to some degree with what he had, his ideas for Gundogan & jesus were thrown into turmoil due to injuries The pressure on him to succeed in the media & by his own single mindedness may well have distorted the whole picture. Like I said don't read too much into it as the chances are you will be wide of the mark.

I watch Navas time and again fail to beat his man by dribbling and crossing and don't believe we don't have anyone better in the academy. I've seen sancho play quite a bit this season and I think he'd bring more to the table than Navas. As we've said many times before, how on earth can our kids develop when we keep playing failures in front of them?
