City v Liverpool - Live Thread

Post by blueboy on Sun Mar 19, 2017 2:31 pm

First topic message reminder :

Wow...this is going to be a tough game. They need to win as the rags have won and still have a game in hand on them. We need to win to maintain top 4 prospects....and to forget about about the midweek exit in the CL.

I'm sure Pep has given some of the players a rocket up their arse after that 1st half effort.

Can see TLMLF coming back in today. Who drops out? Fernandinho or KDB?

Willy
Zaba, Stones, Otamendi, Kolorov/Clichy
Fernandinho, TLMLF
Sterling, Silva, Sane
Aguero

I think he'll want to win the MF battle early and use the pace out wide of Sane and Sterling to cause trouble. BUT...TLMLF owes us a goal or an assist....god knows it's been an age.

The one problem we have is that that Mane will be up against Clichy (who has been poor lately) or Kolorov, who's shite as a LB and slow........we really need to sort this area out, especially for today. Would this formation be better?

Willy
Zaba, Stones, Otamendi
Fernanadinho, TLMLF, Silva, Delph
Sterling, Aguero, Sane

Great pass from KDB....at last.....and at last, Sergio goes near post. He could've had 2 goals in the first half if he did that!

Oliver is a fucking wank-stain of a ref....

Come on City!!!!!!

Liverpool's man of the match has to be Oliver. And I don't mean Jamie for preparing the pre match meal...

I agree BB, Sergio needs loads of chances. Same way some have a pop at Bravo, Sergio misses too many at the other end or makes the wring choice.

Sagna and Clichy were poor. Every time Sagna got the ball, he was looking to pass backwards. Get a young kid in there with pace who wants to pass and move.

I love him....but he's gone from a 1 in 2 good chance striker, to 1 in 6 good chance striker.....far too many missed chances.

Mane....MOTM??? You taking the piss Gary Neville???

Thought Otamendi or Stones were the best players on the pitch.

We were far better after the subbing of Yaya (with a proper FB and a better DM). kev's passing, for the most part, was awful. Clichy and Sagna, weren't good. We really miss MFs chasing back hard. We were lucky will Llalana's miss, but we should have had a hatful.

Oliver was poor again.

Back to the footy. Marks out of 10? I think we played some exciting stuff and created enough chances to win. But we missed several excellent chances. I just don't understand why we aren't hitting the target often enough. It's not a lack of target practice, we just don't seem to as composed as we should be in those situations.

When we are playing well, we look awesome and clearly the best team in the league.

Yes a generous 7/10, enough chances to win and a shit ref again.

Look a comfortable top 4 and the FA Cup won't be a disastrous first season, but I can't shake this totally underwhelmed feeling I have with the whole Pep setup.  It just could and maybe should have been so much better even with the shit defence.

The bottom line is you can look at in several different ways.

You could tighten up defensively and create fewer chances, relying on scoring one or two and not letting anything in at the other end.

Or you can blast teams away creating numerous chances and scoring plenty of goals.

I think most would prefer the latter but we just aren't scoring enough goals.

We also need our MF to come back with more effort.

Funny you mention a shit ref Blistering. Just looked at the gossip column on the BBC football website. And a snippet from The telegraph says referees chairman Keith Hackett blames Mental Fatigue for Michael Olivers mistake ridden performance yesterday.

So that makes it alright then glad that has been cleared up.

Now I ask the question if he was mentally fatigued how the fuck does he get the job of officiating a top premiership game against 2 top sides????????

Yeah, read that this morning. Apparently he reffed the Chelsea v United game, then went to Europe midweek and then reffed this....

If he was fatigued, it fucking showed!!! Rolling Eyes

The thing is...even if we set up to be tight at the back, I'm not sure our defence is good enough to even do that, plus we're wasting the pace in our attack, unless we want to play counter-attacking football, but that can be dire and does need a good defensive unit.

I think Pep realises that the only way to play is to go all out and scare teams, and you could hear that the LFC team and Klopp were very wary of that approach...and to be fair, once again as Pep stated, we made numerous chances to score, but didn't. Thankfully, they didn't take their chances either, which is the downside of being so attacking...the opposition will get chances.

I'm sure with better full backs and another CB in the summer, we'll tighten up this area.

honestly Blue that is an ABSOLUTE JOKE IF THEY ARE USING THAT AS AN EXCUSE. If that was a club the player would be rested I am sorry but in my view both City & Liverpool should take the refs association to the cleaners for not providing a referee of the required standard to ref a premier league game.

You couldn't make this bullshit up.

Pretty much, I just get the feeling in both his previous jobs he didn't need a defence, we do and I think he is struggling to do that.  Almost at the end of the season and he is still wanting massively at the back.   It really is the summer of his career coming up if you ask me.

I thought they were better than in recent times. Otamendi still tends to go for balls he has no real chance of getting, leaving himself on the deck or chasing an attacker. Either way, it's of no use to us. He can't pass it out either and his long balls were atrocious. Another CB with the ability to pass long and with tremendous pace is needed. The full backs were a joke and we can see why they should both go this summer. Sagna didn't even start the game so how was he tired and jogging back???
