Mixed opinions from me. If some decision doesn't work, it isn't necessarily a mistake to have made that decision. The decision to move Hart on may have been for the right reasons but history will tell us that Bravo didn't work out. Mistake or a decision that didn't work? You tell me.

it was a mistake (or arrogance) to not get another quality CB or at least one quality FB (or even two) believing that Otamendi, Kompany and a quartet of 30 something FBs could be moulded into a decent defensive unit.

Sticking to principles or just stubborn?

Maybe Pep has been a tad unlucky with Kompany's continued injury woes and Jesus getting injured after just a few games. Maybe we would have been blitzing teams if he had stayed fit. Who knows?

But, after 40 odd competitive games this season, you'd like to hope we've have improved enough to dispatch a badly struggling Arsenal side and give Chelsea a tough game in pursuit of the title. That shouldn't be beyond us after yesterday's results.

If he stays, we'll see next season. DeGea was banded as garbage and mistake-ridden when he joined United. It took him 2 seasons to start showing his worth - now he's classed as one of the world's best keepers. Granted, he had time on his hands, Bravo doesn't. Still think we need a keeper that can pass out from the back with regularity and Hart's basic kicking was average at best...so for me, a decision that hasn't worked so far rather than a mistake. I also don't buy the 'he would have saved us points this season argument.

This I agree with. At least a new FB. I think he thought Kompany may have played more games and may have suited Stones in a partnership. However, he converted Kolorov to a CB and on the whole, he's been OK, but can only see another CB coming in the summer and 2 new FB's - which means 3 changes at the back in one go - which is never great, unless he buys the right players.

Sticking to principles or just stubborn? I think Pep has been very clear on it. He said he won't change his philosophy, it's the way he wants to play, so for me, it's sticking to principles.

Don't forget Gundogan as well...that the spine of the team that's been affected.

You'd hope so...but football is football. We all thought Chelsea would blow Palace away - but I'm hopeful we'll get the 3 points today and then, if we beat Chelsea on Weds - the gap to them would be 4 points back to Spurs and that brings it's own pressures.

I forgot about Gundogan but I wouldn't have included him that much in being unlucky seeing as we have enough very good players in that department to get by. I think we needed Kompany and Jesus more (even though we should have enough in the attacking department with Sane, Sterling and Aguero)

Looking at the big picture a lot of what he wrote rings true. But in these times of instant success I can also see how the fans react. I guess if I was paying 60 quid a week or whatever then I would probably feel a lot more aggrieved at some of the performances especially the Home draws & the away game v Monaco where for the most part we didn't turn up.

I still feel a little bit of flexibility rather than a solid regimental system would have appeased a lot of the naysayers too.

Still I hope what he says is true about next season & beyond.

If he'd gone 90% strict to his beliefs and 10% flexible (pragmatic), maybe that could have worked.

The way we played away against Leicester for example.

Ollie Holt on Pep and City Empty Re: Ollie Holt on Pep and City

I'm not sure what to think on his philosophy. On one hand, we can all say we hope he would be more pragmatic, and on the other, I've seen things this season that is unique and exciting. I think if we are. Or at the top of the league or winning CL games...we all complain and look for another way for Pep to set up the team.
Remember MP even in the season we won the league? We all made several comments about some of the games we played in...we moaned about games we lost/drew. We're never satisfied.
I'd rather give Pep the summer and see how we set up next season before I'll judge him or complain about his philosophy on how we should play or set up.
I'm absolutely sure he'll get it right as the blueprint is very exciting. This season was always going to be a transition season, one that should have happened 18 months ago....but he's left with an ageing squad and he can't change it over night or introduce his new style or philosophy on the team in 9 months.

I'm very excited about next season. I'm more than happy to be pragmatic, over what most fans want out of Pep for this season, considering he's actually took over a team that has set him back 12 months.
This season has been one of change. Next season will be one of implementation and we'll see a whole new approach with Pep's players taking us forward.

Please don't use Conte as an example. He inherited a PL winning squad that was mis-managed by Maureen....Pep inherited a team that was 2 years out of date.

Let's see how Conte does if we beat Arsenal and Chelsea when the pressure increases...and see how he does next season.

One thing is...I'd rather watch us this season than a pragmatic Chelsea.

I've said all season long that we've been the best team bar none. We've been devastatingly exciting at times. I just wish Pep used  some sense in the games where we've been mauled.

The only mauling's I saw were EFC and Leicester...we should have won or drawn in every other game this season.

Chelsea got battered in the sense of the word by LFC. They got clearly mauled by Arsenal 3-0.
Spurs mullered them 2-0....

So that's 3 games Chelsea got a pasting.

Chelsea were actually mauled by us but came away with a victory. It is those games mentioned where if pep had tweaked the system maybe it would have saved us from a defeat or at least a heavy defeat. That is the truth of the matter. Yes spurs only won 2-0 but could easily have been 4 or 5.

I am still 100% behind pep & as stated already we have seen some football this season that has been absolutely delightful to watch from a city side, What we need is to be consistent over 90 mins & not just play for 45 mins. With some more agile fullbacks a leader @ centre back & a decent solid Keeper we will be awesome next season, hopefully almost injury free too .
