Arsenal v City Live Thread
Massive opportunity to potentially knock a top 4 challenger down further.
Team?? Is KDB and Sterling fit? Hope so.
Team for me:
Willy
Stones, Otamendi, Kolorov
Fernandinho
Sterling, KDB, TLMLF, Silva, Sane
Aguero

I think Kev and Raheem are fit.
Can't argue with that team as long as Sane and Sterling do their defensive duties properly.

At least Vinnie is on the bench but I'm not liking Navas anywhere near the team (or subs). Pep's an arse

Oh FFS Dawg.....the game hasn't even been played yet, and already you're hating (as per usual) on Pep.
Say that after the match - by all means and we'll all agree that you were correct.

got a feeling Navas will be doing the full back duties allowing Fernandinho to fill the defensive midfield role.
Not much on the bench attacking wise? probab,ly coz they are all in the team, but would have had itchy on the bench. Also would have had Fernando over Delph.

You wanted Pep to be PRAGMATIC.....he's clearly trying to do this adding Navas on the right to look after the runs of Sanchez...with Fernandinho there to help.
He plays an all out attack...he get's labelled as being not pragmatic enough because he doesn't pick a team that corresponds with what we all pick....he picks a pragmatic team, he's now an arse.
He can't win.....

Strange selection - 3 wingers altho I'm not sure Navas counts as a footballer never mind a winger

Hope Kevin is fully fit, he came home from international duty with a groin problem didn't he?
I'm driving down to Bristol for a course so should be an interesting drive.

Think he'll be doing more of a 'stop Sanchez' job than being an out and out winger. Think Sterling will drift right when Navas has the ball.

I just knew you'd be up in arms with that comment. I'm sure we've all asked what Navas brings that a kid couldn't bring more of?

He's shit on the ball out wide...we all know that - however, he does a job for the team working back. He has pace, even if he doesn't use properly going forward. You can see he's trying to keep Sanchez wide and stop him drifting inside with the ball, which he's exceptional at and when he causes all his troubles for teams.

A tackle on Sanchez....1st tackle as well. So it led to Cocquelin getting a yellow for his tackle on Silva....again, a first tackle. Mariner is just too card happy!

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
2 goals.....hit the post twice AGAIN!
Poor defensive play from Clichy not getting out with the line and missing a chance to clear it as well.
Could have been 3/4-1 up here again....
It's never going to be easy against an Arsenal team that have a lot to prove to the Manager and fans.....but that 2nd goal before HT has made things a little more difficult. Well done Sergio.
Would like to see KDB a little further forward to get Sane into the game. He's scored, but been non-existent since as we are targeting their left hand side.

Sounds like Sterling might have had a knock, coming off for Navas

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
KDB is NOT doing his defensive duties. He let his runner go and was pointing at Navas to pick up the runner when he was the one marking the player with the ball.
Get Vinny on and Stones at RB....take Navas off and push KDB wide.

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
Too many shite performances today from our so-called big players.
KDB....awful.
Silva....what a wonderful left foot, but wtf are his shots all about? Never seen a wonderful player as awful at shooting.
Sane...apart from his goal....absolutely non-existent.
Navas....did a tough job for 60 mins and actually kept Sanchez quiet in the 2nd half....but boy oh boy...he's wank when going forward.
Fernandinho....his passing was atrocious today.
Shame Sterling picked up that injury in the ridiculous international midweek.
Willy....had fuck all to do apart from save a mis-tap from Walcott and a soft header from Mustafi...
Thought Aguero was poor as well today....didn't work hard enough.
Overall, we could easily have had 3 points today if the players bothered to turn up - AGAIN.
Mariner....got to be the biggest bottle-ref ever.
Xhaka could easily have had a second yellow today, but again, bottled it.
3 shots on target for Arsenal - 2 goals....sort of sums up the game.

Fernandinho looks like his legs have gone....he looks a shadow of the player last season and the start of this.
TLMLF...he's not getting away with it either. Lazy as fuck tracking back players like Iwobi who got a clear shot away after starting the move on the half way line with TLMLF next to him, but within 2 seconds, was 20 yards ahead of him.

Fernandinho was a let down today - and Toure's passes were sloppy. Thought Navas did a decent job - his crosses in were better than usual- we just didn't capitalize on them. Kev did a decent job - created the first goal for Sane - he just hasn't been on fire like he was earlier in the season.

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
Just seen it on MOTD after my drive to Bristol.
I just want this season to be over, nothing is changing. Shit defence / keeper, story of our season, but that isn't our main issue these days.
We have to start converting these chances, how many times are we having so many chances to score and we still need 7 chances to get 1.
OK Pep is always going all out for goals, I get that. But how many times are we going to miss 6 out of 7 clear cut chances.

Same old story. If only Merlin could finish he'd have 80 goals for City.

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
How can you play a winger who does very little going forwards (is it true he hasn't scored a league goal for 100 games?) that can't actually defend? If it was for his pace against Sanchez, we might as well have played Linford fucking Christie there...

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
I thought he kept Sanchez quiet in the 2nd half....Sanchez did nothing of worth, except contribute to a corner (that led to the goal) because KDB had a sudden bout of TLMLF-itis and decided he couldn't be arsed to track back.
But yes, he's fucking garbage going forward!!

Same old same old though....we take our chances which we should have, Pep's formation works....don't he get's the blame.
Still. I'm with you - thought it was a little strange....and actually thought Sterling coming of injured didn't help us.
Would rather he put Kompany on and Navas wide right....

No brainer for me when Sterling was injured.
He just won't play Kompany at all and there are more rumours that he'll leave at the end of the season for as little as £6M.

Pretty pointless keeping him. He must be on £120-150k pw....for what?
If he was truly fit.....it's a no brainer - he plays ahead of Otamendi or Clichy (in a 3)....but something isn't right there.

Why even have him in the squad when you won't play him? Is he just trying to piss him off so that he is resigned to leaving?

Re: Arsenal v City Live Thread
I really can't see Pep doing that. If he wanted him gone, a la Hart, he seems a Manager that would just be open and honest and not bother with him.
For all we know, he might be generally trying to nurse him back.
Who knows.....but a fit Vinny for 90 mins would be a big boost for the semi's and the run in.

Really don't see how he is nursing him back. He brought Zabba on after 89 minutes when we really could have done with Vinnie on the pitch for those last 4 minutes. Kompany can't even get the last 4 minutes!

It was 2-2. Maybe he's waiting to see if we are getting spanked or are spanking another team.
I really don't think there's any malicious intent by Pep.
