Dani Alves

Post by Topdawg on Tue Jul 04, 2017 8:54 am

What's holding up this deal?

It was rumoured that he'd be leaving Juventus about a month ago and taking a pay cut to join us (quite easily get a decent signing on fee to alleviate this).

Then he left Juve last week and we've heard nothing new. I thought this would be wrapped up swiftly especially with the sword of Damocles hanging over our head.

He's away on holiday in Brazil, I think.

City will probably wait until he's back prior to pre-season before signing him. Not too worried.

They play the rags in the USA on 20 July, so I'm guessing 10 days prior to that. Not too long.

Not too bothered if we sign him or not.
Im more worried that we haven't got anywhere on Mendy Walker or a new CB as yet

I think we all thought we'd have 5 or 6 players by now, however, I think if we're realistic, deep down, we knew that 3 or 4 of the players we have been linked with would probably take a while to get them over the line.
I think Walker and Mendy will definitely sign. As for CB's, I think if Van Dijk was closer to £50m, we'd be in for him, but not £70m.

Ironically, we're having our best season for outgoing players with 5 players sold for £34m.  affraid

I'm disappointed that walker and mendy aren't  signed already. I think we'd all feel so much better if we had those full backs in by now. We'd feel much more confident going into the new season knowing that we didn't really need anyone else and any top players we signed from now until the end of august would be a bonus

I wouldn't be that confident.
When Kompany gets injured we r lumbered with 2 average CBs in Otamendi & Stones

But, if we don't sign a new CB but get walker and Mendy, we'd still be in much better shape defensively of kompany got injured. But it's better to have a top CB as well.

The club must be doing everything possible...but Monaco and Spurs are obviously reluctant to sell or sell on the cheap.

I can't see them resting on their laurels when Pep has clearly identified his targets months ago.

Citywatch claim Alves will sign towards the end of the week, and also Mendy is a possible signing later this week.

To do a deal with Spurs as they seem to like the hardball approach & are very good at dictating deals, I would be offering 10 million & Itchy in return for Walker take it or leave it. We are already Guaranteed upwards of 25 million from Leicester. If not move on to the next target semedo from Benfica. Get Mendy in, & I don't see why we havn't tried for Fabinho. He started life as a right back but in more recent times has become a box to box right sided midfielder can also do a holding job. Why not utilize him at right back & cover for Fernandinho in midfield if needed. This position is crucial bearing in mind we have a 34 yr old toure & no certainty that Gundogan can go injury free.

Really looks like alves has chosen Psg now. Has appeared in Paris & is due his medical tomorrow. Unless that is a big wind up I would say that one has flown the coop.

MEN claiming that he will sign for PSG tomorrow if the rumours are true. City asked for a comment which they denied...which is odd, if they have been told by Alves that he isn't coming, or, Alves hasn't notified his intention to City....all a little strange. You'd think that Txiki and Pep would be in constant contact with him.

The whole thing is a fuckin shambles ! Now we have no LB RB or decent CB when Vinny gets injured
Spuds & Monaco will add another 10-15 million now that they know we are desperate.
Everyone else has strengthened their teams. We have bought yet another midfielder who wasn't needed & 1 untested (in the PL)GK
At this rate we'll be worse than last season

Wow....calm down people. The season hasn't started and unless you want the management to buy players who can sign in the first two weeks on July and disregard the other targets which were always going to take a while, what did you expect, 6 average players signed quickly or would you rather get our targets even if it takes until the end of July?

Yes, Spurs could add another £10m, but City can easily walk away, leaving the Spuds with a player who will be on the bench, unhappy and all the while his price deteriorates. Can't see Levy doing that. Wouldn't surprise me to see Kelechi being part of a swap deal for Walker now.

And, nothing has been confirmed over Alves. If Alves is such a close friend of Txiki and Pep, I can't really see him not telling them he wants to sign for PSG.

We could walk away & then where does that leave us. Who do we get? Spuds dont have to sell. A swap deal is a good possibility though.
Nothing has been confirmed over Alves but it doesnt look good & appears to be in all the newspapers that he has snubbed us for PSG. I wouldnt be bothered about Alves if we actually had a RB, but we dont having binned all ours. Fernandinho will be happy though as he could be used more than he thought or more likely the useless twot Kolarov will be given the role for the season even though he was hopeless as a LB

Can't see us going into the season with Fernandinho at RB and Kolorov at LB Tony.

I think Mendy will be signed up fairly quickly if the Alves deal is true...shame we haven't got Maffeo as back-up. Still, I can see us having one or two additional options that we can make public if they think Spurs will keep playing hardball....the usual leaked "City looking at....." to get Walker and his agent pushing for the move.

City seem relaxed, no rash statements - so that could be either out total panic (not sure I can see that under Pep, considering the way we got Ederson and Silva), or they are pretty cool on things and want to keep everything low-key like the two we've already got. No quotes for the MEN either, which is a good thing. Don't need to spread our approach across social media and the press like the Rags, as we've seen how nearly every player they wanted, went to someone else....better to keep it close to their chests, even if it makes us fans nervous.

I'm keeping the faith....and I think it's been said many times, with all the post season tournaments etc that have happened this season, some signings will run for a while before a signature is down on paper.

Let's face it....City have never come out publicly and stated they want Alves....it's all been media speculation, so maybe he was never seriously on Pep's radar or his demands weren't appealing anyway?
