Rony Lopes

Post by skyblueoz on Sat Aug 05, 2017 2:00 am

I just saw the result of Monaco's opening league game of the season v Toulouse. Reading the team line ups I saw a certain Rony Lopes in the Monaco side. I googled & sure enough it was the same wonderkid who was on our books. Given Monaco's recent reputation as promoting top quality youth players, do we feel City missed a trick here?? Also what does it say about the managements judgement of younger players development within the eds? Thoughts..

I just don't think the timing was right back then to introduce kids into the team. He was good, just like Denis Suarez...guess time will tell.

You would know better than I dawg as you are there. I was just curious to see if Monaco can make him another 50 million plus player?

Marcos was where Brahim and Phil Foden are now.

I was there against Watford midweek, when he came on as a sub and scored from 18 yards out past the their keeper.

He's still only 21 so has a chance.

Monaco bought him from City back in the summer of 2015 and then loaned him to Lille (like City did). Monco didn't think he was good enough to play with all the other kids they were pushing through these last two years but, with the way the transfer market has exploded, one good season and he'd be a £30M+ player.

We'll only really see how good the Monaco kids were when they play for other clubs this season.

6 goals in 37 league appearances isn't such a bad return

I know all about him Dawg....I was following him from nearly 4 years ago. I cried out for him to be given a chance all those years ago, but as with most of our youth, they show up well in the EDS teams, go abroad, and pretty much do fuck all.

I'm still hopeful for Marcos, but something tells me he'll be another Brandon Barker......

He's way better than that. He's done alright but not made that big step up. He's got this season to prove himself back at his parent club

I won't be holding my breath.

TBF, Denis Suarez in Spain hasn't pulled up any trees....yeah, a few games for Barca, but you can't honestly see him being a regular there.

don't lnow how many starts, but suarez played 36 times for Barca last season.

In his two previous seasons (with Sevilla and Villareal) he made a total of 95 appearances so it shows he's at a pretty decent level.
