Yeah, good luck. My brother-in-law is coming to visit from Miami this weekend and decided to send his wife and kids to the in-laws in Mexico City, so must be a shitty forecast.

Update. Their flights have been cancelled to Mexico City, so they're boarding up the house and either staying in a shelter or driving north. Shocked

Are you staying Wensdi or getting out of dodge? Either way, good luck for this weekend and hope you all stay safe and there's not too much damage caused.

I think it's less of a problem being in Mexico than Florida right now.

Dont think Mexico is much safer, there is another hurricane (Katia) affecting there and they also just announced this morning that there was an earthquake in the south measuring in excess of 8 on the Richter scale  Shocked Apparently is shook buildings in Mexico City hundreds of miles away

My brother-in-law landed in Mexico City a few hours ago.

Latest news is that Irma will hit the Keys and South Florida by tomorrow evening. It's currently over Bahamas, travelling at 16mph with winds close to 160 mph.

Problem is, when they travel over large expanses of water, they pick up even more power and energy, which increases wind speed.

Thank you all for your good wishes.  Fortunately I was visiting Atlanta - my husband told me not to return until after the hurricane as its going to be devastating.  I won't be able to get a flight back for ages though as everyone else will be trying to return to Florida.

Fingers crossed for him and the 3 cats - told him to find a shelter as the windows could all blow in - then no power for days, weeks who knows.  Very frightening for all of us.  Monster of a storm and as its turned more westerly we will get the brunt of it.  Eye is supposed to pass right over us unless the trajectory turns tomorrow.  Can't sleep.

Hope you've left Atlanta now Wensdi, as it's on its way there too?

Been watching my brother-in-laws cctv of his house...when the storm hit. Thankfully, it's made of steel and upgraded to withstand hurricanes. But still, lots of flooding.

No trouble in Atlanta with Irma - just some rain.  Finally back home after 12 hour drive - should have been 7 hours - but bumper to bumper traffic in parts.  Had no power since Sunday - so house was like a greenhouse 95 degrees and everything in the fridge/freezer - rotten.  Still - the good news was husband and kitties all fine.  Power switched on tonight (Thursday at 5:30 pm) so celebrating.

Thank you all for your good wishes I love you

I see there is another hurricane on its way towards you Wensdi, I guess you back home now. It seems like madness in that part of the world right now if you include Mexico

Stay safe
