Arsenal crowd trouble

Post by Topdawg on Fri Sep 15, 2017 6:02 am

Seems like thousands of extra cologne fans got into the arch last night and many fans, on both sides, didn't have their bags checked

Ridiculous security breaches, especially in this day and age.

As many have said, imagine if they were English supporters.

Wenger whinging that UEFA should not punish Arsenal for the behaviour of Cologne fans!!!
To be fair, although thousands more of them turned up than had tickets and crashed arsenal's section, most were in good humour and well behaved.
The problem UEFA should and hopefully will be addressing is the total lack of adequate security as alluded to by Dawg, especially in light of recent atrocities in London and Manchester.

so in summary..

Cologne fans came en masse despite being told not to without tickets
Cologne fans knowingly bought tickets in the home sections (online, touts, friends etc)
Cologne fans swarmed the stadium
Cologne fans refused to be checked entering the ground
Cologne fans light flares within 5 minutes of kick off
Cologne fans were fighting in and around the ground (only small scuffles, but still fighting)

am I missing something here where UEFA charge Arsenal with something???

OK Cologne fans were naughty in regard to tickets but surely if you refused to be checked entering the ground, you dont get in? Flares should be punished i agree, the "scuffles" were minor involving a tiny minority, the vast number of cologne fans were well behaved from what i saw.
How do Cologne or indeed any club including City, control the allocation to opposing fans via "touts or friends etc posing as home fans?"
The only way i see to control ticket allocation to home fans only is to only sell them to fans with membership numbers etc but i heard that Cologne fans had signed up as Arsenal fans on the Arsenal web site weeks ago then bought tickets in the Arsenal end and many turned up wearing Arsenal tops over their own tops? How true this is i can't say.
It can be argued that both clubs should be investigated but for Wenger to claim Arsenal are blameless is wrong IMHO

The club are definitely culpable.

Fans have to be searched before entry, so refusal to be searched should mean refused entry.

Flares are banned, so anyone successfully bringing them in highlights a failure in the search process. And if they can bring in a flare, they can bring in a dirty bomb.

Fighting outside the ground is a police matter, but inside needs to be dealt with by the club.

So if they failed these points then they are culpable. End of.
