Will Gabriel Jesus be City's best ever signing....
at an eighth of the cost of Neymar?
Manchester City landed one of the bargains of the century when they picked up Gabriel Jesus for just £27million.
And when you consider that six months after the Blues landed the teenage prodigy from Palmeiras, Paris St Germain paid a staggering £198million for Neymar, that fee looks like even more of a bargain.
The difference has been duly noted by Fernandinho, who along with Ederson and Danilo is an international teammate of both men, as well as turning out for the Blues alongside his young pal Jesus.
“With the market we’re facing nowadays, not only regarding the Neymar deal but also the players that arrived in England this season, a market well-known for spending huge sums… for what Gabriel has shown back in Brazil and what he’s been doing so far, I think he ended up being a real bargain for us,” he told Goal.com.
“We are happy with that, because the club managed to pay little for a wonderful player with a huge future ahead of him, whose perspectives are the best possible.
“Somehow, Gabriel managed to be ‘left out’ of this transfer market madness we are all seeing nowadays.”
The fee City paid could rise to £31m if City enjoy plenty of success with him in their midst – and that would make it an even bigger bargain.
To put it into perspective, even with the increments Jesus will have cost the same as Nicolas Otamendi and £11m less than Eliaquim Mangala.
Since joining City in January, after leading Palmeiras to the league title, he has scored 12 goals and chalked up five assists in 18 Champions League and Premier League games.

Silva for me is the best player I've seen in a City shirt. One of the top 5 players I've seen in the PL...EVER.Moonchester wrote:Aguero / Silva... :p
But, at the time, we paid £30m for him in 2010, which in today's market, is close to £100m.
12 months ago, we bought Jesus for £27m.......£7m less than Ederson. £14m less than Mangala. £23m less than John Stones. £63m less than Paul Pogba and Lukaku. And, £168m less than Neymar.
Silva will ALWAYS be my favourite player....he's simply a genius.
I guess you can say the £6m we paid for Vinny was an incredible deal.....but that, like Silva and Aguero, was a number of years ago.
£27m for a player like Jesus, in the current market of the past 12-18 months, may, just may, turn out to be laughably good business.

I think the problem is, 'best' signing is relative to the time we are in.. recent(ish) history or since I've been in my teens (but over 10 years ago) -

Would you honestly put any single one of them above Hart, Zaba, Vinny, Silva or Aguero? I wouldn't put any of them ahead...they were good players, some will be legends due to various games, goals etc...but as constantly as good as those I've mentioned?

I get what you're saying Moon and it is everyone to their own, but as bluey said, surely none of those can be above Aguero, Silva or even Vinny....especially the likes of Berkovic n Anelka.
Admittedly, Kinky was a good signing though.

Yes I am old enough just to remember the signing of Colin Bell from Bury. & if you want someone who was consistent in performance week in week out it was him. He like Silva could change the course of a game with a moment of sheer brilliance. We got 11 years service out of him & probably would have been more but for the horrific injury v Uniturd.
I would side with Silva currently only because I have seen far more of him than Bell due to tv saturation, Of the original post, Jesus has the possibility to be, but the amount of games & knocks he will get & how long he chooses to stay will no doubt determine the outcome of the answer.

So wish I could have seen more of Colin Bell!
If you read the OP, it's only a question about the possibility of Gabriel becoming our best ever player. Will he? I doubt it. Not sure he'll be here long enough.
As for legendary status and some of the names mentioned...it's all subjective, just like some like Sterling, others don't.
