Trouble is half the time the refs don't see the incident or don't think it's as bad as it actually was. Sane's 'tackle' for example. What they need to do is make sure the correct punishment is dished out later if the ref doesn't see it or better still bring in Rugby's video refs & punish them correctly in the first place

Re: UEFA order refs to protect players...
I think that's what Pep is trying to say...retrospective action, even if a yellow card has been given. You'll never eradicate bad tackles, but if a player knows it can be looked at again during the game or on a Monday morning, then maybe they'll think twice about diving in recklessly.
I agree, at times, it is hard for refs to see exactly how bad the tackle is, as it can happen quickly, but this whole "a yellow card can't be reviewed" is ridiculous.
UEFA have said since 2012, that yellow cards can be reviewed, but the PL haven't took up this option. The other issue, is that they've changed their stance on being able to review diving...so why not yellow cards?

And I think there should be offences that get a 5 or 10 game ban. The one on Diaz where he was smashed on his hip deserved a 10 game ban.
If you’ve no intention of going for the ball, that should be a minimum 5 game ban.

Depends on the severity of the tackle. The Diaz one deserved a 10 game ban because it was highly dangerous. Flying in, studs up and smashed his hip area with absolutely no intention of playing the ball.
Dangerous but playing the ball, maybe 3-5 game ban

Bloody hell, it was bad tackle, but 10 games???
Thought Bennett's on Sane was far worse. The Diaz tackle wouldn't do major damage..maybe some stud marks and maybe an impact injury....the Sane tackle could easily have ended up with a compound fracture and an end of a career.

UEFA should have said noone's allowed to tackle any City players from now on...and be done with it.

Depends what you think the intent was. I was just giving an example where the player had no intention of going for the ball and it was a very dangerous tackle aimed to stop and hurt the player.
Bennett's was similar. I just gave one example.
