RIP Ken Mulhearn

Sad news today.

I saw him many times back in the day, also saw him playing for County on a few occasions.

You must have seen some great players then, in your time watching football. Best ever?

Best football ever the City team of today.

Most exciting...standing on the spikes at the back of the Kippax watching Bell Lee and Summrbee team

Also love the times we played the rags and all the trouble in the Kippax as we weren't segregated in those days.

My first game was Norwich for my birthday. Before my 7th birthday. My dad (from Scotland and a Rangers fan) and my mum's brother, a massive Blue. 1977...in the open corner of the Kippax, next to the North Stand. We ended up there pretty much all the time over the next 8 years.

My only memories are of Joe Royle....don't know why, but a rattling of coins in his pocket has stayed with me all my life, as he went up for a header near the corner flag. Don't even think they had pockets in their shorts in them days, but for some reason, I thought they did and he had coins in them and Tueart scoring and everyone going mad.

Won 1-0 or 2-0...but it was brilliant! Being passed from my dad's shoulders to my uncles...then onto someone elses's who I didn't know.

Then, remember the violence....at Maine Road against LFC and seeing an LFC fan slice a guy in front on me and my dad, with a Stanley knife....this was before the game!

As a teenager, I had to pretend to be going with friends to Manchester town centre, just so I could sneak into the game...as my Mum wouldn't let me go with my dad and uncle....

Climbing over the fence from the North Stand to the East stand when we beat United 5-1...so me and my mates could get a better view!!!

Wasn't at the 3-2 against QPR or the Gillingham game, so that's my stand-out moment so far.

But agree...this season, by far the best team I've seen as a City fan.

Just remembered, it was before my birthday, as my sister took me to Malta for my birthday...she worked for BA, so it must have been a March match, as my birthday is 3rd April....don't forget everyone!!!  Razz Razz Razz

The worst viloence I ever got caught up in was what became known as the battle of Bramhall Lane.  Fighting everywhere you looked and the police just watched on,  probably scariest moment I've ever had at a game

During the days's of the 3 day wek and power cuts I worked at Bredbury Steelworks, City's game against west brom got changed to a wednesday afternoon because we were not allowed to use the floodlights. So there was a strike arranged to start at midday

I first went in 78 (I was 7)...and I haven't got the foggiest who it was against or what the score was.
I do remember Barnes, Hartford n Owen being brilliant that season tho.

Always remember my Dad or his mate parking their car on a pub carpark near the ground (we always went in for a drink), on or just off Claremont Rd....I'm sure some of you oldies will know the name of it. There were kids outside asking to "mind ur car" for 50p, cheeky gits.

I was a teenager when I first went. Can't remember who against or much at all. Probably around 1980-81.

My old man was dead against going to games because of the violence.

My first game was April 2nd 1977 v Ipswich.  Always remember because Red Rum won the national on the same day.

PS. Was a ballboy in 1979 for winning a Macclesfield schools football tournament.   Got to go in the players lounge before the game and met Mick Channon checking his horses funnily enough.
