No VAR next season

Post by skyblueoz on Fri Apr 13, 2018 2:05 pm

So the premier league have voted against using VAR next season. Looks like we will be talking about piss poor refereeing and leg breaking tackles again then. When will they take their bloody blinkers off ???????

I don’t know why they don’t want it. Maybe they erroneously believe they get the run of the green

Whenever a manger complains about an incorrect ref decision next year, the reporter should remind them that this is what the clubs wanted

I'd love to see which clubs voted against it. The rags, for sure, as we'd have had a penalty off them with it.  Also the dippers, as we had two goals which would've stood and one of theirs ruled out.  Also Everton, as we'd not have had Walker sent off in our first home game (a result meaning we'd only have needed a point last Saturday to win the league).  And I dare say there's plenty of others who feel suitably smug about getting decisions go their way.

The problem at present is it's used the wrong way.

The simple solution is to have the 3rd (or even 4th) official next to the monitor. Any debatable decision, the referee just asks the 3rd official to have a look and make a decision. He just conveys back the decision straightaway....should take no more than 10 seconds to conclude. Simple!!

It really should be that simple. The onfield ref makes a decision and the 4th ref has 15 seconds to overrule him. Might need a bit longer in the early stages (maybe 30 seconds) but the aim should be to get it down to 15 seconds.

If the 4th ref can't make a decision within that timeframe, then just say it's too debatable/ not conclusive and carry on.

Don't even think the on-field ref needs to be the one to make a decision. If the 5th VAR official spots something from the replay - just like we all see on TV within about 5 seconds....and decides it's worthy of something...he tells the ref.

The problem with the on-field ref having to make a VAR review, is that you end up with the whole Atkinson missing the tackle on Aguero. The 5th VAR official should be able to say in his ear-piece "hey Martin you blind fucker....you and your wankers running the line have missed a clear penalty and red card you fucktard".....and Martin will have to suck it up.   Wink

Exactly as you put it Blue except plural on the last word Very Happy Very Happy The word from the person watching the match should be enough if it is not conclusive as Dawg states then nothing would be said in the 1st place. Surely they should see how to get it right at the world cup and if there are any flaws then straight after is the time to say so. Come the beginning of the season the system should be ready to kick in. Like someone says it would be interesting to see which teams voted against it. Especially as we have dirty alli tonight?????

Saw Wenger saying the premier league is behind the times for rejecting it. I don't usually agree with much of what Wenger has to say, but in this instance I am very much in agreement.

i hope a team that voted against it, gets relegated on the last day of the season by a blatant mistake from the ref that VAR would have overturned
