Praise and an acknowledgement of City’s progress comes from what to some could be seen as a surprising quarter this morning.
With just the slenderest of goal differences separating us from United at the top of the table, an interview with Sir Alex Ferguson in the Inside United magazine has been picked up by many UK papers. There’s not a lot to go on, but it’s an international week and the papers traditionally scrabble around while domestic news goes on the back burner.
The Independent’s take is, “I've said all along that would happen," Ferguson told Inside United magazine. "They are a good team and they were always going to be there or thereabouts."
“City have spent heavily in recent years – Ferguson said that they have "changed football" – and the United manager acclaimed the quality of two of their imports. "Sergio Aguero was bound to do well, coming into the Premier League," Ferguson said, "because he is such a goal threat around the penalty box. David Silva is also a very good player."
The Mail reports that Sergio Aguero is being lined up to play for his country despite coming off with a groin injury at Ewood Park last Saturday:
“Manchester City fear that Sergio Aguero could aggravate his groin injury after their £38million record signing was a surprise inclusion in Argentina's squad for the opening World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Venezuela.
"It was thought Aguero would be sidelined for at least two weeks. However, Argentina's team doctor has declared the 23-year-old fit enough to remain with his teammates in Buenos Aires.
Looking for anything original or not derived from the UK press about City on the web is, as ever, a struggle but Football Fancast has a “Top 10 Premier League enigmas” with a sky blue twist. Two former City players, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Joey Barton, and one current one in the shape of Gareth Barry are named in a list of players the site feels have not fulfilled their potential. Mildly controversial stuff, but worth a look on an otherwise quiet day.

Re: Tuesday gossip
Could Citys medical staff not have insisted on Aguero not playing?
I presume they must have said he was fit enough to travel and play before the Argie Doctor said he was ok. He'd better not come back injured, especially with the Rags coming up in a couple of wks.

Re: Tuesday gossip
Interesting. I know he came off with a tweaked groin muscle, but mcfc did state he would be out for 1 or 2 weeks..........now he is suddenly fit to travel with the international squad?
either city were being over-careful with our new signing or aguero has requested to go? hate these fucking internationals at crucial times in the season, but then again, it gives the odd player a chance to rest i suppose.

Re: Tuesday gossip
WE did later release a statement saying it wasnt as bad as first feared. Then Aguero tweeted that he should be fit to play in the up coming international

Love garden has been pulled out of the Italy squad and sent back to Manchester with a back injury. If we lost him and Aguerro we would down to just Dzeko
