How good is Javi Garcia?

He must be very very good otherwise we wouldn't have let NDJ go (or so you'd think)

Just looking at the financials to start with. Let's say Javi cost us £16M and we let Nige go for £4M. Javi is 25, NDJ nearly 28.

I'm guessing the wages were about the same for both players.

If Javi is only as good as NDJ, then we've spent £12M on a like for like replacement. Not good business if all it would have taken was to pay Nige an extra £20K per week for him to stay.

As good as De Jong was for us he was limited in his passing ability which for a team with designs on seriously competing for the CL perhaps falls a bit short.
Garcia has a reputation as an excellent distributor and can also drop into central defence so you can understand the signing,but as ever time will tell if he's worth it
