Have we lost out again....
Bayern Munich confirm Pep Guardiola will become manager of the Bundesliga side in July on a three-year contract.
Current Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes will remain in his post until the end of this season.
I have no idea what to think of this?

Yep - its on the BBC site - so can take it that it was just wishful thinking he would come to City.

I think it's a good move myself, would've been good to see him at City though, but you can't argue with Munich, a big European side, rear stadium, great team, more money available once they pay off the stadium next year(?)

Re: Have we lost out again....
We won't get to see how good he is though. The arguement, and it is hard to resist, was that he inherited great players at Barca. He is now joining a club that was in the champs league final in 2 of the last 3 years.
At any of the Premier Leagues big 4 clubs (City, Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal) he would have been faced with differing tests of his abilities.
He has chosen the easy way out.

He probably chose them because nobody else made him an offer

Re: Have we lost out again....
Mancini has done a great job upto now... IMO would rather keep him then Pep. Stability, knows the Premership has assembled his own squad and we are 2nd in the league with still a good chance of winning again! Let him have at least another crack at Europe but that is going to be the biggest test.
Re: Have we lost out again....
No we certainly haven't missed out. Never wanted him to start with, so i'm made up he's gone to Germany.
RM has to win the PL this season, if he doesn't we have to go after Mourinho....or Moyes imo.

Re: Have we lost out again....
I think it'll be interesting to see how he does with Munich. If he can make them more successful then he'll have proved himself. If not, then the theory that his tenure at Barca was easy becomes fact.
In retrospect, I think it's better we didn't form the base for that experiment.

Too much of a gamble, we have a tried and tested manager with 3 trophies under his belt so why change? No to Pep, Mourinho or anyone else for me thanks.

It looks like the owners see stability as the key approach here. Which can only be a good thing.

Re: Have we lost out again....
Precisely! I think we're all sick of the managerial merry-go-round, it certainly proved to be completely and utterly useless to us when we've chopped and changed. And as unfathomable and enigmatic as Bobby can be, we can't ignore the fact that he's brought home three trophies and a consistent entry into the CL, something we've not achieved since... well, before my lifetime anyway.
We may not be in Europe any more, but we're still in the hunt for the league (and possibly the only contender now Chelsea's wheels seem to be coming off again) and we're still in the FA Cup, so there's still silverware to chase down.
And we're definitely safe from relegation again this season. Yeah, another season of top flight football to look forward to

Imo though, RM still has to win something this year leo......or he's out on his arse .
We cannot afford to take a step backwards now, a trophy a season is the minimum requirement.
I maybe harsh but there can be no excuses!!!!

Re: Have we lost out again....
So you think he'll end up being a victim of his own success, Shaken? He may well be, although I'm hoping that won't be the case. I think it'd be a bit harsh on him if he was, but I can see where you're coming from; it'll be hard to go from trophies to no trophies. Maybe the shield will count for something?
The only thing I know for sure is that one of us is right and we probably won't find out until the end of the season.

Re: Have we lost out again....
I really believe that Bobby is still finding his way in the PREM.He has been relatively successful, and that is good for us,but we have gone from no trophies, to a trophy every season over the last three seasons.Which as I stated before ,is better than the old geezer across the way did in his first attempt. If Bobby stays we should be grateful, heis proving his value, although some of his substitutions are confusing

Re: Have we lost out again....
The problem i have ceb is, the mistakes he made in the 1st half of last season (before he decided on keeping a settled team to win the league), he's made again this season.
That's not finding his way, that's just being plain stupid. Surely if he kept a settled side and stopped fannying about with the team (injuries excused) we be in a lot healthier position than we are now.....i know 2nd isn't that bad, but i think you know what i mean.
leo,
Yes i do, but there can be no excuses. The failure to lift any trophy this season imo will be down to him (as highlighted above). We need strengthening, yet can anyone see us making those signings to make us stronger....well certainly not at the minute.

Re: Have we lost out again....
It could all change this weekend, a win for us, and a loss for UTD at Spurs and the pressure will be on! we've battled and won twice with 10 men this season, so we know we can cope with pressure, and after last season's determined run in the last 6 games the boys know they can do it at the business end, when it really matters.
Bobby's only issue is Europe? what can he do about that?

Re: Have we lost out again....
Well, no. I don't see us making any moves to do anything. We're over halfway through the window and we're not even rumoured to be linked to anyone viable. Maybe there's something happening on the quiet that we'll find out about soon, but somehow I doubt it.shakencity wrote: We need strengthening, yet can anyone see us making those signings to make us stronger....well certainly not at the minute.
