Top priority.....new striker
Most of us want Cavani. City want Cavani. But Napoli are holding out for in excess of £50M. I don't think we want this transfer to drag on through into July/August so are there any viable alternatives? It would be terrible if, after all the waiting and haggling, he didn't come.
I wouldn't want a one season wonder leading the line such as Benteke or Michu as they may just be that expensive flop (remember RSC?).
Suarez won't be sold for less than £50M it seems, especially to another premier league club and i don't want him anyway.
Lewandowski looks Munich bound.
Higuain is slow and can't make it with Madrid. Benzema isn't good enough these days.
I'm really struggling to see who we can get if we don't bag Cavani.

Maybe it doesn't have to be a big name. Surely we have scouts over Europe looking at the talent. Look at other clubs, Michu, Benteke, Cisse, Ba etc etc.
We seem to always want to go for the big name, when realistically there could be a superstar waiting to be swept up!
In a ideal world though, I'd take Cavani. No one can really shy away form his obvious talent - but £50m. Wow! That's a hefty price for someone who has just played in the Italian league.
Lewandowski would also be a great shout, especially at £15m, but probably going Bayern.
Suarez, absolutely NO! No, No, No, No, No! Not if he was PL top scorer for 3 years running, with gold testicles. Not in a million years!

Lewandowski hasn't signed for Bayern yet, despite this seeming to be a done deal.......could we nip n and nab him at the last minute?
Cavani at £50m+.....not for me. £35m at most.

Re: Top priority.....new striker
Think Cavani is our best bet, spending an extra £10m to land him will be payed for in hopefully winning the Prem, and/or going a damn sight further than the we did previously in the CL.
While I think Dzeko would flourish with decent service, anyone who thinks Cavani isn't an upgrade needs his/her head checking!
If we land Cavani, and get the right balance in the team, we will be back steamrolling the opposition again, scoring for fun, and playing with that title winning inhibition we saw last season, this will be the step up we should have taken last season, and with the impending opening of the Academy next year, it looks like the project might just be back on track!!!!

If all we had done last summer was sell Balotelli to PSG for the reported £40M and bought Cavanni for about the same money....

If Cavani doesn,t arrive I will be well pissed off, But if we have to look elsewhere I,d be looking at lukaku or Benteke.

Pellligrini has had crocky at Malaga with him last season. I wonder if he will give him a chance again? Is there anything left on his contract?

50million for Cavani will be a snip if it means the difference between winning the PL or not and with the increased revenue that inevitably follows on with being champions will more or less pay for itself

Very true. Plus he'll sell more shirts worldwide than some guy from Guyana who we picked up for fifty quid and a packet of rolos. Granted, at £72 for a shirt with his name printed on it, we'd need to shift 650,000 of them to get our money back, but still...Paulpowersleftfoot wrote:50million for Cavani will be a snip if it means the difference between winning the PL or not and with the increased revenue that inevitably follows on with being champions will more or less pay for itself

If Cavani helps us get out of the group stages of the CL, he'll have paid for his transfer fee there and then (nearly).

True, but what if we don't get him and we get out of the group stages anyway? I mean, it's not like the players we have aren't good enough and if that bunch of old men at the swamp or the kids at spuds can get to the quarter finals, then we shouldn't have any issues.
It's one of those, isn't it... do we spend or not?

Re: Top priority.....new striker
Like I said yesterday........we've signed 2 players - arse about tit!!
Fernandinho isn't needed as a priority.
Navas - no point if we sell Dzeko and can't get a big man.
Why not say to Napoli - here's Dzeko and £20m....get Cavanni in now.
Then - and only then, get the players that will compliment him - and if that is Navas - fair enough.
I know we need pace - but for me, it's all about sorting the Dzeko/Cavanni combo out first.....then concentrate on other players.....and preferably another top class CB.
I agree though.........we get Cavanni - I'm not arsed who they sign next TBF. They can even keep Nasri!!

Re: Top priority.....new striker
I think te signing of Navas will benefit Silva more than anyone else to be honest, it will allow him to play more centrally and give him another option for a pass. I'm more than happy with that signing.
Fernandinho, I really don't know much about but seems expensive to me. I also hope to god we don't get Pepe.
Regarding Dzeko and Cavani, Cavani is an upgrade on him but I don't think he is worth what the difference might be, which is what worries me about that one.

I can see Navas complimenting Silva...and agree with your comment Melton....but I do think that Cavanni is a much much better option than Dzeko - and if it means paying £20m extra for him....I'd pay it.
IF Real were to come in for Cavanni, they would be made to pay £40-50m for him.
Is Dzeko worth £25-35m? I don't think he is. £25m tops. His goalscoring record is pretty good for City, but we have never played to his strengths....so maybe they will keep all 3 strikers and look to buy to compliment all 3 current strikers.
Who knows....but I wouldn't sell Tevez or Aguero.....so unless they keep Dzeko.....we do need another 'big' striker.
I also agree - £22m for Fernandinho does seem excessive.
I wonder who has asked for these players or who has sanctioned them as we have no manager?

Re: Top priority.....new striker
I believe the players are decided upon by the Spanish duo and some input from the manager. I heard that no striker will be allowed to leave unless we have already made an acquisition - we don't want to end up like Liverpool.

Well all 3 are going about this a little strange....if Dzeko is to leave IMO. Unless, they have already agreed terms with Cavanni??

Re: Top priority.....new striker
Dzeko has proved the adage time and again that white men can't jump so perhaps the signing of Navas is not with him in mind anyway
Would still like us to snap up Andy Carroll for 12 million as the plan B

You know what............for £12m....that'd be a great shout if Dzeko was to leave and give us another option if Navas was out wide. He always wins headers and with Silva, Nasri, Aguero or Yaya on the edge of the area.......£12m would be peanuts for that type of option.........but then we'd have to pay £25m, as we are City!!

There are some compelling arguments on here, but the only one I would back is,do not get Pepe,he is 30 and starting to show it,also IMO he is too rough and tumble, also too dirty for us,and not fit to shine Vinnie´s boots!!

Re: Top priority.....new striker
Pepe for £8m would be a good shout in the PL for 3 seasons.....all the experience of the top, top level and wouldn't dick about like some would. Pepe for me...i'm afraid, would be a great acquisition.....head case I know....but tough as shit and wins tackles and headers all of the time, with the odd rash tackle I agree....but seasoned!

I'd take him for £8M even though I don't like him. He'd cost nearer £20M though.

Re: Top priority.....new striker
Maybe so, but Cavani isn't coming to us with any great speed and if it gets delayed much longer we might have found we couldn't get Fernandinho or Navas as they'd already gone elsewhere. Or worse, we don't get him until the end of the window and end up not being able to get anyone at all.blueboy wrote:Like I said yesterday........we've signed 2 players - arse about tit!!
So we've bought MF's ahead of the striker, so what? At least we've bagged the players we need, we just need that one piece to park up front and we're good. And if Cavani sees us building the team ready for him, that we're deadly serious about having him here, he might hand in that transfer request a bit sooner.
And even if we don't get him, at least we've picked up a couple of MFs with a bit more speed and penetration to open up defences, rather than the languid dawdling of last season.
