I'd much prefer the deal to be Xavi to MCFC for a season then onto NYFC.

Yeah read this earlier.

As good as a marquee signing he'd be, would he actually be that good. Let's remember he'll be 35yr old and not have the quality around him that he currently has....it's easy being good in a great team.
Maybe he'll still have the flair and skill he still possesses, but not having like minded stars in the same team may hinder his commitment. However, i do concede, signing another 2 big names "outside the salary cap" may just prove to be enough to convince him to join and enjoy it.
