Juan, does he matter and what difference will he make?
£40M dabs is a hefty price tag and some less fair minded people could accuse the rags of trying to buy the league (again).
Is he really what they need and how much difference will he make?
They already have Rooney and RVP who have class. Kagawa may have been good enough but he's been mucked about at Utd.
Mata will make them a better attacking force. Rooney, RVP, Januzaj and Mata will be half decent but his work ethic may well be called into question. They still have a shitty defence though.
If they only get Mata, then they may just squeeze into the top 4 but it's still very tough for them.

Will he be willing to risk joining a club that might not be able to offer Champion's League football next season?

Very good player....good buy for United, but it only masks over their problems, as they will now have to work out a different way to play.
It will no doubt strengthen their first 11....but unless Chelsea have some agreement with Rooney....why sell to United when 3 or 4 other European teams would pay £30+ for him?
Still not done...and wouldn't it be funny if Mourinho kept them hanging on until 30th Jan, only to say "no"...

£37M and a 4.5 year deal. He's an idiot unless Moyes has told him he's signing some stellar names in the summer.

Not our problem Dawg...we have greater issues making sure we get a top class CB....what the rags do won't matter...Gollum will fuck it all up anyway!!

Mata has his eyes on only one thing and that's the World Cup. He knows he's up against some huge competition for a spot and he needs game time to show he can do it. And if he shows it by making the rags look better then he'll look like the hero, the kind of guy who can wrench decent performances from the shittiest of teams.
Not that it'll make any difference. They'll have to build a team around him to get the best from him and that means uprooting all the work they did building the team around Rooney. They're going to be a couple of years off getting that done and in the meantime the rest of the competition are just going to get stronger.
I heard that JoMo said he'd never sell to anyone who is in direct competition for the league. I wonder if anyone at United has joined the dots yet?
