Newcastle away for our opener.followed by Liverpool at home, Stoke home, then Arsenal away, Chelsea at home...WTF? That's a tough start to the season.
United 1st Nov.

Yeah, I know....but we've got a great last 5 games!
See the rags get the 3 newly promoted teams in their first 5 games!

Very true, Blistering. Plus it gets that massive banana skin of playing at the Emirates out of the way early on - no more worrying about dropping points and derailing out last push!
We should win the Newcastle and Stoke games and we should push to beat Chelsea and Liverpool at ours, too. Get those points on the board and we should be good.
Last game at home, too. Nice

That said, January looks like it'll be a bit of a bastard... Sunderland and Arsenal at home, Chelsea and Everton away, plus the first of the FA Cup games and possibly the semi final of the C1C, if we're still in it. That's going to be a pain

Re: 2014/15 Fixtures
good thing about not playing newly promoted teams early is the fact they are really up for the 1st couple of games. look at us last season against Cardiff & Hull early on. Better to get the tough tams 1st at least with them we know what to expect.

Re: 2014/15 Fixtures
We should be good to go at the start of the season. We'll be playing the same tactics as last season. We'll pretty much have the same players as I can't see us buying anyone that will walk into the 1st team (except maybe a CB).
The only unknown will be how players fare after the WC, but that is the same for everyone.
We've also got a few players that aren't in Brazil or not getting any time on the pitch (Negredo, Navas, Fernandinho, Kolarov, Garcia, Nasri, Jovetic) so that should help a little as well.

Do we have to give the dippers a guard of honour after their title win in April?

we've now got silva out of the world cup. I think it will only be the Argentines who we will be missing a great chunk of pre season.

Re: 2014/15 Fixtures
You beat me to it Loz, i was going to mention that avoiding the newly promoted teams is preferable because of the reasons you stated. Cardiff's form dropped markedly by mid season but the first game they played like men possessed just so happy to be playing in the PL. By the time they fizzled out our main opposition teams were just brushing them aside. I hope the new boys have a right go at the rags and don't look like rabbits caught in the headlights they should know by now that they are there for the beating if you want it bad enough.

I think our double winners should give them a guard of honour to celebrate their manager and player of the season awards!
