Devastated
Woke up at 06:30 yesterday morning and found our Labrador pup (8 months) had died in his sleep.
Not sure what happened, he looked like he was asleep, no pain on his face, peaceful. Saturday he was full of life as usual, long walks in the fields, played in the pond with the other dog on the farm as usual.
The vet said he could do an autopsy, but the chances of finding out what caused it, unless it was something very obvious, would be slim. If he he did an autopsy, he couldn't let us have him back as we live on a farm. Can only imagine it was something waiting to happen, as he wasn't poorly, sick, or looked like anything was wrong.
Decided to bury him in our orchard where we can visit him. Not the nicest thing I've ever had to do.
Gutted beyond belief. He wasn't with us long, but had a great life whilst he was here.

Sad news, mate
Sounds to me like it was one of those things that just happens. It's a good thing he went in his sleep rather than being in any pain, but that's scant consolation for losing him at such a young age.

Cheers Leo.
His breeding was excellent. I'm trying to get hold of the breeder to see if any of his brothers or sisters have had any problems.

Cheers Den.
Sat here at my desk and the little man is normally next to me. The house feels empty.

Not a dog man myself, but always sorry to hear about loved ones, including pets, passing on.

I wasn't either Dawg until the little man came into our life. Was never that fussed about having one, but we took him off an old guy who was struggling with him. Surprised me how quickly he became part of the family and how much you miss them when they go, so suddenly.
Luckily, I can walk out to his grave and sit there with him. Just feel completely lost at the moment without him.

Very sad, so sorry, unfortunately if it was an aneurism or something like that there is no way to foresee it coming.

Re: Devastated
cheers PPLF....I think I've said it all really. Feel empty without him. I'm sure that will ease, but right now, it's still raw with him being so young and with everything ahead of him.

Only just read this Bluey - hope you are doing better. Gutting to lose a pet - they are part of the family.

Yeah, as each day goes by, it gets a little easier. Still miss the little man around the house.
Buried him in our orchard, so I can see him every day.
Now even considering buying another to fill the void he left.
