Well I thought I wanted Holland to win this one - but seeing Martin, Sergio and the Warrior - I started pulling for the Argies.  I can't see me pulling for the Germans in the final either.  Poor old Zab - he always gets a pasting.

I gave up on this after 90 minutes. No-one wanted to lose so no-one wanted to win.

In a competition where we've seen teams properly going for it, this was a dull contest. The entire 30 minutes of extra time was played by two teams who just wanted to go straight to penalties. And then Holland ballsed it up by giving the first kick to a centre half. Oops!

In a way, I'm glad Germany have got to the final, at least they're going to attack and make a game of it. Hopefully, they'll play an open game and let Argentina in and beat them.

Just got this off the BBC Website, as i was wondering about this myself.

Would Tim Krul have saved the Dutch?

"I would have done it but I had already used my three substitutes so I couldn't do it," said van Gaal when asked if he'd thought about bringing on Krul.

The Newcastle keeper saved two penalties against Costa Rica in the quarter-final and Cillessen, who plays for Ajax, has faced eight penalties in the Dutch League, three in the Champions League and six in World Cup football but has saved none of them.

Correct me if i'm wrong, did LVG not put Krul in especially for the shootout against Costa Rica?
So unless his 3 substitutions were forced ones, imo he completely fucked up by not saving Krul for the penalties again.

No, you're absolutely right Shaken, he did save Krul for the penalty shootout against Costa Rica. And he didn't make any forced subs either, he chose to bring on more players.

Frankly, there's no telling if Krul would've repeated the heroics he displayed against Costa Rica. He did it mainly by sledging his opponent and I doubt the Argies would've been so meek.

He had to take RVP off in extra time - he was knackered and had suffered some sort of intestinal problems earlier in the week.  Effectively, that left him no room to put Krul on.  On his last legs apparently.  Thought the Argies took their pens convincingly anyway.  Thought Vlaar was brilliant last night - he gets overlooked at Villa.
