Re: Who is our free kick coach???
do they have to stay 10 yds until one touches the ball? or is it when the refs whistle blows , coz the last one to hit the ball was closed down but still managed to get the shot away. If he had hit the on rushing player would the ref have made the free kick be re taken as the offending player was less than ten yards, And no vanishing spray!!!!

As soon as the ball is touched, it's in play.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
so therefore by rights the free kick should have been re taken as the on rushing player was only about 5 yards away, and subsequently should have been booked

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
Nope....the ref has his arm up which indicates an indirect free kick. If you watch the 2nd to last player, he touches the ball to effectively make it in play, before the guy who scores it, hits the ball.

Therefore, the defender only moved forward when the 2nd to last player touched the ball.....clever bit of play.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
The whistle only indicates the free kick can commence as he/she is happy with the wall etc.
For a direct free kick, they will put their arm out to the side, blow the whistle which means the kick can be taken, but again, defensive players shouldn't move until the kick is taken...but in theory, we all see them starting to move when the free kick taker gets near the ball.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
absolutely correct even with my glasses on I missed that. I had to even watch it twice after I read your post to see the touch well it is 00.40 am here. Just on something completely different blue ( pythonesque there). I asked you the other week for the matchday centre on the city website as for some reason it did not appear on my computer. fortunately you gave me the link. Do you know if they have changed the web pageas every matchday I cannot find the matchday centre on the site until after the game is finished & I am reading players & managers comments then there is usually a link to it. Where do I find it straight away?

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
That's weird....when you go on mcfc.co.uk (that may be the problem for you being .co.uk) there is normally a link saying match day centre.
Next time, I'll try and open the link and send the url to you prior to the match - you can then chat to me and tell me whether it's working or not. I can then see another way around it for you if it won't work.

Or...if you've got a laptop, plug your headphones in and watch a live stream link I post...but I know it's probably early hours on a Sunday/Monday morning for you at our UK KO times.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
One way or another - we'll sort it. I'm connected to the Head of HR for City on LinkedIn as she's trying to sort some work placements for my lads in June...even though she's on maternity leave!!
I could always ask her to put me in touch with the social media guys and see what they say.

In fact...I've just remembered, I'm connected to a City marketing Manager...I'll send him a message tonight and ask him the question.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
Now i'm gonna sound real weird but I can get all City games on Fox sports every week no problem & champs league on espn. But I like to see what some of the other fans are saying on matchday & also the guy who does the writing I enjoy seeing how biased or objective he is.

No probs....if they reply I'll PM you. But I'm sure between us all on here we'll find some solution for you.
Yeah, know what you mean...I like to watch the link prior to KO, see what's being said about the team selection which I use to post on the Live Thread each week.

Re: Who is our free kick coach???
.....they've just been accepted to work with the assistant manager of Chester (our local team)...but they were waiting to see if MCFC got back to them, but I doubt they will.
One is studying business, the other wants to be a sports physiotherapist.
TBF...Jon McCarthy at Chester FC has been brilliant, offering them all the help they need working around the club and the first team.
So we'll probably go with them, as my 17 year old can drive my 15 yr old there.....
