looked on a par with Dzeko yesterday.....awful touch and had the effort of TLMLF.

£32m? I don't think so. Remember, he's looked good for the last 5/6 games - but prior to that he didn't score in 19!

He scored about 10-12 in the last 10-12 games...

Fair enough........and 0-19 in the previous ones.

He truly was awful yesterday.

Remember, we're talking £32.5m and £165k in wages which he's demanded and he scored 13 PL goals.

Didn't watch the game, so taking your word Bluey (and reports in the media). Probably didn't help that he was on his own, but he still has to try to make something happen.

Those stats are like saying Aguero didn't score for about 8 games (because he was coming back from injury), so his end of season form was just a flash in the pan...

Yeah, but look at Aguero's goal record since he came, season in season out.

Benteke scored:

19 PL goals in his first season.
10 PL goals last season
13 PL goals this season.

Hardly prolific.

Yesterday, yes, for the first 60 mins he was playing on his own, but he possibly won 2 headers all game. Whenever the MF's were running at Arsenal. his movement was non-existent.

This is on the biggest stage and even when Gabby came on to help him, it looked like he couldn't be bothered.

I'm not saying he's a poor player...but I really don't think he'd suit our style of play whatsoever.

I don't want him. We've got Bony for that job.

Agree. I watched the game Bluey and Benteke was really poor 
Mertesacker had him in his pocket the whole game & Benteke just looked completely out of his depth as did the vast majority of Villa players. Another one we have been linked with - Grealish - was virtually non existent the whole game

Grealish tried for the last 5 mins....but apart from that, his control, passing and distribution was as bad as Benteke's.

One question though.....would Benteke be better in a better team?

For £20m i think he'd be worth a shot.....for £32m, bit too much.

I agree Scott. Are we to presume that 1 of either Dzeko/Jovetic will be staying then...if we're not looking to add a forward.

We need 4 forwards. Unless we are getting Sterling and de Bruyne (who could play there if need be), I reckon at least one is staying. I'm hoping both go though.

Yeah, you've pretty much summed up what I was trying to say.  If someone had said that 18 months ago, would anyone have believed them?  I know I wouldn't.  In fact, I'm still having a hard time believing it now and I've witnessed it with my own eyes.
