Money can't buy everything, we need to rebuild our history
Sanchez has finally signed for Barca for a measly £23M. Barca are hoping to sign Fabregas for £35M.
I believe that those two valuations are below what Barca should be paying. I reckon they have saved themselves at least £12M, maybe more. If we had been buying, those two guys would have cost us at least £80M.
That current status, and their history, is helping them get players on the cheap and stretches their money a bit further.
I'm not jealous at all. I want us to be able to command such a position in the marketplace in a few years time and that will certainly help us with (un)fair play rules.

The 23m rises up another 12m with add ons.
Its a bit of a different scenario with the likes of Sanchez and Barca. He is Spanish speaking, so has probably grown up watching the likes of Barca and Madrid and also Barca just happen to be the best team on the planet, so with both players expressing it their wish to play for only Barca, it has put them in a strong bargining position regarding the price they pay.

80-(23+35)=22 not 12 topdog! I can tell maths ain't your strongest ... All those times watching the Vorderman would have been helpful if you listened to her instead of boobies?
To your title... Some dimwitted idiot might think football was created in the 90's but other know better.

city would have paid £80M for the pair, though others wouldn't as Sanchez was around 330N and Fabregas around £45M.
I was born in the 60s and can even remember the last time city won a trophy (before last season of course!)
