Good job I'm not an athlete...
Had to get an emergency appointment at the doctors yesterday.
My calf has been giving me no end of grief since the weekend. Swollen, red, hot to touch and excruciating pain with my calf/veins feeling rock solid...........DVT?????
Anyway, they took bloods and last night I got a call from the centre to say it's definitely NOT a DVT! Thank god, as I'm flying all over the place for the next 4 weeks.
Anyway, the doctor has just called me and told me that I have a raised haemoglobin level of 20, when it should be in the region of 17.
Basically, the opposite of anaemia...I have too many red blood cells. She said it's as if I had my blood drained and re-inserted like athletes do to massively increase oxygen levels in the blood.
On antibiotics and blood thinning tablets to thin the blood, until I get back before Xmas, they then want to take me in and drain off some of the blood!
She suggested I give blood regularly to keep in it check...so I can kill two birds with one stone!!
Pain easier today after 24hrs on the medication...lets hope it keeps going that way!
May take up cycling...

Haemochromatosis?
of just a by-product of jet-setting round the world all the time?

Not sure yet Moon.
I've got to go back to the doctors when I return home, before Xmas.
Can't say I have any of the symptoms:
sleepy
joint pain
or struggle getting an erection!!
Guess I'll find out when I go to see her again.
Why do you ask? Work in this area?

Maybe it is, as that's what she said I'll have to do.
