Too bad, but we dont operate a 2 tier legal system whereby the law is only applied to some but not others.Ex- soldiers can keep unregistered firearms in their homes but it's illegal for everyone else? He knew it was illegal and as somebody said in the comments, what would all these outraged people be saying if the gun had been stolen from his house and used to kill somebody?
Would it be acceptable for him to have kept an AK47 in his house too that he took as a souvenir while in Iraq or Afghanistan? Where do you draw the line? The law is there for a reason and it applies to all and a guy with his experience should have know better anyway.

The fact he's been given 15 months in prison, compared to Paedo's who get 2/3 years for sex offences is what's an injustice, so in terms of your point, we should operate a 2 tier legal system, or, if a judge can sentence him to 15 months for keeping a souvenir from his army days, these judges should be jailing sex offenders, rapist etc to 15-20 years, or life!

You can say that the legal system sentencing is wrong and that paedos should get much much longer. As MCM says, he broke the law. And knowingly broke the law.
