England v Russia
I thought we did well for 90 minutes and then blew it in stoppage time. We need to be making more of our chances (I'm looking at you, Lallana!) and putting teams to the sword instead of leaving the door open for them.
Still an encouraging performance though, more so than in the last ten years.

Re: England v Russia
I thought they were excellent overall. Milner being naive and diving in didn't help, but if we can play like that on Thurs, should be a cracker.
Thought Kane was poor tonight. Held the ball up well, but was too greedy in possession and rarely looked to get on the end of some brilliant crosses.
Here's a stat...in 90mins, Kane didn't touch the ball in their box. Probably, if he stopped taking corners, he may have done.
Rooney looked comfortable, Sterling had a good first half, average second half. Lallana was very good on the ball but can't finish for toffee.
Hart's distribution was again average and again, goes for a cross, stops and gets done by a looping header.
Shame, was the best performance I've seen for some time. It was crying out for Vardy when we got the goal.

Also, where the fuck is the French stadium security???
If the Russian fans can get flares etc into a stadium, wtf could ISIS get in???
Absolutely terrible.

Re: England v Russia
And this country is going to host a WC in 2 years time?
............................
Deluded Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko has claimed there were no clashes between fans after England drew 1-1 with Russia on Saturday night.
Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart urged supporters in the crowd to stay safe after Russian fans broke through the minimal segregation and perpetrated a coordinated attack on the England support inside the Stade Velodrome following running battles on the streets of Marseille earlier during the day.
But Mutko, who infamously claimed for 97 breakfasts during a three-week official visit to Canada and has been accused of being complicit in state-sponsored Russian doping, denied any such violence took place.
“There was no clash… that’s being exaggerated,” he said.

Re: England v Russia
All this is very worrying. It's bad enough that the lax security allowed them to get a flare inside the stadium and let it off (without being caught), then they want to deny any major problems.
Sadly, our reputation goes before us. My decent French friends, shake their heads and talk about English hooligans even though it wasn't one sided at all.

Re: England v Russia
UEFA have started investigations against Russia for inciting violence and racist abuse apparently. Not heard anything about the English FA.
I think for a change, 99.9% of the situations that have taken place have been attacks instigated by local ultras and Russian fans.
Guess you have to ask where the Police were in the areas where there were large numbers of England fans? Seems they turned up after most of the violence had been dished out - only to dish out more of their own.
I saw one video on Twitter last night that shows a fan on the ground after being attacked by Russian fans - he's on his back with his arms in the air as approx 40 French Police run past him - and at least 10 of them stop, only to give him a Rodney King style battering with their batons - absolutely disgusting.

Sadly, if they can get away with it, many of them seem to be quite willing to do this sort of thing. French police aren't renowned for their sense of fair play.

And where is the next world cup? Going to be a nightmare? Fifa need to prove they have changed show some balls and pull it from Russia, won't happen.
Back to the match, as great as the kids are why can none of them shoot a ball? Sterling, lalana, Ali on occasions, and Im sorry Harry Kane was bobbins too. Sterling is proving the pricetag has got to him, 2nd half he was garbage. And dont get me started on Woy! The only manager less capable of changing a game than MP

God I was gutted at the end - such a good strike by Dier and thought the lads deserved a 1-0 win. For all Rooney's critics - I thought he played well - Kane and Lallana were the worst.

Re: England v Russia
How sad is it that there is still an element of hooliganism with some of the these English guys masquerading as fans that could possibly have England disqualified from the competition. Some of the players have worked so hard to make it to the Euros/World Cup etc., only to have it ruined by thugs. Lots of questions over here of course and its embarrassing to find an answer. I realize that the main problem was before the match and the Russians started the trouble at the end of the match in the ground. Disgusting behavior.

Could be worse, you could have some ISIS supporter shooting 50 dead in a Florida gay club and injuring another 53 innocent people.

Actually no it couldn't be worse. This is the England v Russia thread not gun control in the US. Don't want the players to suffer by being disqualified. We can talk about the massacre in Orlando on another thread

If UEFA can't ban Russia for continuous racism within their country - then FIFA provides them the WC...are you seriously telling me they will ban England from this tournament???
Hold on...don't answer that - they probably could!!

I nearly pissed myself through laughing when Uefa said they'd throw England/Russia out of the competition...they're so full o crap it's unreal. As Leo said, they should threaten to pull the WC from Russia if anything....but they won't.
As regards the game. To me that just about typified why England won't win it. Despite playing pretty well and deserving to win, we're just not clinical enough in front of goal to put a game to bed or strong enough at the back to keep a clean sheet. I was so disappointed with the result, yet sadly not surprised.

It annoys me that we've still got this tag as I'm sure it's just a tiny minority. What we saw was Russian fans crashing through a cordon made of French security who just let them through, but apparently we are the issue

Sorry, my bad leo, it was blisterin.
We will always be tagged with hooliganism. There was even trouble between the Polish n Irish fans i've been hearing, but nothing's been said about that.....probably because we've not been involved.

Fell off a 26 foot wall...or was pushed, or neither. Not sure whether it's related to the clashes there, but a fan has definitely died.

Re: England v Russia
Just seen this on FB:
Craig Lyons at UEFA EURO 2016 - Marseille.
17 hrs · Marseille, France ·
Finally home after a weekend of mixed emotions.
Some of the scenes I have been witness to this weekend in Marseille have shocked me beyond belief.
Seen so many tweets and posts from so many ill informed and gullible people.
I'm not denying England has many idiots supporting them, home and away, but we were attacked on numerous occasions, and offered no protection whatsoever by the French Police. They seemed intent on just firing tear gas, which effected everyone, not just the few trouble makers, and all it did was spread the crowd into another area and enrage innocent people.
But this was nothing compared to the savage attack from around 3-400 Russian cowardly animals, we witnessed at close quarters and took cover from. They set upon a small section of English fans who minutes earlier were enjoying a sing song with many French fans. We were pelted with bottles, chairs, tables and anything that wasn't bolted down. Any one caught in the way were set upon by 4-5 Russians and beaten severely, including when already unconscious.
I had to plead with and shout at the French Riot Police for at least a minute, for them to perform CPR on a guy who was clearly not breathing, he is still, in a critical condition and I will be very surprised if he survives.
So before you slate and tar all England supporters as hooligans, have a think and see what you would have done, when constantly attacked, provoked with out any support from the hundreds of deployed police?
This Photo was taken an hour or so before the animals arrived.
UPDATE FROM THE INJURED GUYS FAMILY:
The unfortunate guy that had CPR performed on him is in an induced coma, and still fighting. They have set up a just giving page, please see comments for the link, and give generously.

Re: England v Russia
Some 150 Russians were behind much of the violence that erupted in Marseille when Russia played England in Euro 2016, French prosecutors have said.
Ten people, including six Britons, three French and an Austrian, face an immediate trial, Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin said.
But he said just two Russians had been arrested, both for a pitch invasion.
About 35 people have been injured, four seriously, following three days of clashes in the city.
Police deployed tear gas to disperse football fans on a number of occasions, and there were also clashes in the stadium on Saturday following England's 1-1 Euro 2016 draw with Russia, after Russia fans appeared to rush at England supporters.
"These are extremely well trained people."
Most of the 35 people who were injured in the fighting were English, Mr Robin said, adding that two Russian nationals were being expelled from the country.
A 16-year-old Briton was among those arrested and charged with throwing bottles during violence in Marseille.
Mr Robin said British teenager was in custody and that he had personally spoken to tournament organisers Uefa to have his future tickets cancelled.
Twenty people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
The prosecutor said he did not think the Russian hooligans were "professional" but they "were extreme".
There were 12,000 Russian fans in Marseille who travelled to the city by train, he said.
Uefa has been investigating after Russia supporters appeared to rush at England fans in the stadium after their draw on Saturday.
It has threatened to ban both teams if there is further fan violence.
It also opened disciplinary proceedings against the Russian Football Union for alleged crowd disturbances, racist behaviour and the setting off of fireworks by its fans during the game on Saturday night.
Witnesses said trouble began in the stadium after flares were let off by Russian fans near the end of the game. Some then climbed across barriers designed to keep rival fans apart.
A number of Russia supporters appeared to kick and punch fleeing England fans, who were forced to clamber over fencing to escape.
Russia's sports minister Vitaly Mutko has said that Uefa had "done the right thing" to start a disciplinary case against the Russian Football Union, R-Sport news agency reported.
But Russian MP Igor Lebedev criticised French police and called on Russian football fans to "keep up the good work".
"I see nothing wrong with football fans fighting. On the contrary, well done to our boys! Keep up the good work!" he tweeted.
"What happened in Marseille and other French cities is not the fans' fault. It is down to the police's inability to organise and hold such events," he wrote in a separate tweet the same day.
Mr Lebedev said fans needed to be "protected", adding: "We'll deal with them when they get home".
The French government has urged cities hosting Euro 2016 matches to ban alcohol near venues and fan zones following the violence.
The UK government has offered to send extra British police ahead of England's next match in Lens on Thursday.
Russia's next match against Slovakia will take place in Lille on Wednesday - the day before England's match against Wales, just 24 miles away in Lens.
Lens has already banned alcohol from being sold and fans without tickets for the match or fan zone have been told not to travel.
Sanctions against Russia will be decided at a disciplinary meeting on Tuesday, Uefa said.

Some things don't change no matter who is in charge. UEFA are still feeble, useless and corrupt. The Russians shouldn't have the WC but FIFA are feeble, useless and corrupt too.

Re: England v Russia
The French "riot police", thats a joke name for them for a start! Stood and watched the Russian ultras get ready and then watched them attack, in the main, peaceful English fans who's only crime was some drunken singing and chanting. After the attack was over they arrested not a single Russian ultra and instead launched tear gas causing more distress to the already severely beaten and injured.
I have never had any time for the French, these scenes have merely strengthened my dislike for their whole lawless society, they are constantly on strike across many areas from farmers to air traffic controllers, the latter seem to spend more time on strike than they actually do working! When farmers are blocking motorways by slowly driving tractors 6 abreast along them, the police escort them and do nothing to stop them, when they set fire to British lorries of sheep and lambs at the port, the police just watched and did nothing! France alone is enough to make me want to leave the whole stinking corrupt EU! rant over.

At least they've been clearing some of the rubbish from the streets. It's a terrible state of affairs. No school meals tomorrow because of the national strike. At least the kids are in school otherwise so many parents get screwed.

I see they sentenced 2 England fans to 2 and 3 months in prison respectively.
Amazingly quick justice don't you think?
I won't hold my breath for the announcement of the Russian ultras prison sentences.
France is fucked.....simple as. Odd nation and one I'd gladly not be associated with after 23rd June.

Everyone around the world saw the TV images of these thugs attacking fans while wearing balaclavas and scarfs over their faces while riot police stood back and did nothing. Why were no Russians arrested? Why were beaten England fans handcuffed and tear gassed by the French cops while lying injured after the atttack had finished and the Russians mysteriously apparently disappeared ? The same police charged English fans on Wednesday night with batons to disperse them after the bars had closed, could they not have used less violent means to move them on? They were drunk and being boisterous but what did they expect? It's like a Saturday night/early morning in most cities and towns in the UK but British cops dont baton charge them, even in Spanish resorts they use common sense and only arrest the drunken idiots who go to far.
