Celtic debate.....
I was listening to TS in bed last night and a lots of Celtic fans were on. The question was; "if Celtic were in the PL, where would they finish?"
Some were saying they'd win the PL within a couple of seasons. Others were claiming that this team, under Brenda, would be in the top 4 every year. Others were saying they would be where Everton and Soton are.
It got very heated, as you can imagine, as Cundy was doing his best to wind them up - calling them a small club, with a Manager who couldn't hack it in the PL with great players. The callers were saying they could sell 90,000 tickets every single week, so Cundy said "if you're that big of a club, looking at social media, you have 450,000 Twitter followers. Boro have over 1m followers.....you can imagine the response.
So, it got me thinking....where would they finish? I used to believe that they could be right up there, but I'm not so sure now. Yes, they are sweeping the league this year, but the level of football the opposition provided is nothing short of embarrassing. You only have to look at Inverness, last nights opponents....look at their ground FFS, it's similar to Nantwich Town's!
They do have a massive following, that's fact. And, the money in the PL would definitely increase their chances. And, they tend to do well against English teams in European competitions - providing stiff competition, but really, top 4 in the PL???
One Rangers fan said you only have to look at the 90's to see how many English and top European footballers went to Scotland - but they were all past their prime. How many top class Scottish footballers play in England and what have they achieved?
I'm guessing Darren Fletcher is the most successful.
Matt Ritchie, Scott Arfield, James McArther, Robert Snodgrass, Jordan Rhodes, Charlie Adam...to name a few of their top names.
So, where do you think they would finish - let's say after 2 seasons in the PL?

Re: Celtic debate.....
Mid table. They get the big crowds for European matches, and the players get worked up for them, but they wouldn't get more than they currently get for the visits of Southampton or WBA who hold no draw and the players won't be as up for it.
They'll get tons of money and that's where any difference will be made, but they'll only get the same as Everton or Southampton so how much difference will it make to their buying power?
And what if they got relegated like Newcastle? they are a similar size with, I guess, similar crowds.

Newcastle is a one-club town though.
Celtic have a far bigger following than most English teams....but agree with what you said - they get themselves up for European nights.

Re: Celtic debate.....
you can see where they are by the signings they make, Either young potential ( Dembele, Van Dijk), Loans such as Roberts now Denayer past, or their signings Boyata, Kolo Toure, or European journeymen English championship players etc. They would be hard pressed to maintain a consistent amount of form to trouble the top half of the premiership. Only the incentive of beating English teams week in week out may help their cause. On the Negative they don't have many Scottish players now to fire up that passion.
They consistently attract crowds of 40,000 plus so I can see them obtaining some good gate revenue plus premier tv money, but unless they are competing in Europe then major overseas sponsorship may elude them.

Re: Celtic debate.....
Firstly, short memories, nobody has mentioned the fact that City couldn't beat them in 2 CL games. They have failed to progress in the CL over the years but
ff they got access to the huge amounts of Sky TV money available to PL teams now, they would be able to strengthen and with their huge fan base most of the Premier League clubs would be unable to match them only the top 4 or 5 City, utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal maybe spurs would be serious rivals to them.
After a couple of seasons in the PL i think they could be serious top 4 and possibly League contenders

Trust me as an ex soldier who moved here, i despise those IRA supporting, irish tri-colour flying feckers. I am just giving an honest opinion. Personally, i hope we never see them in the PL, we dont need their anti-English, sectarian bullshit
