Unless he pulls another funky 1-wingback back three/four like the Huddersfield game. Expecting so much possession against an ultra-defensive Newcastle, so pace on both flanks from two wingbacks and creativity through the middle.

I think Sterling and Mahrez might start today.
Aguero up top s he has a great record against Newcastle.

Spot on Moon ... go to the top of the class! Interestingly, no Leroy. Not even on the bench.

Raheem , lovely finish. Mahrez needs a goal to settle him, snatched again when shooting.

What is going on, this is nothing like the team from last year. It's not just Kevin missing, all I can say is we are just average. It's not totally terrible but somnething is off.

HT 1-1. Is there a team in this league that concedes a higher percentage of goals per chance than we do?

Be disappointed if we don't improve, 2 games running isn't great. Not sure 2 up top is needed in this game, I would get Bernado on for Jesus

You’re not wrong. Definitely need a two goal gap because they’ll probably get one more good chance.

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
Meh! Take the 3 points but average and wasteful. Newcastle had 1 shot all game and scored. We were back to our 20 attempts for a goal. Took a worldy for Walker.
Need to kick on after this international break.

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
Not vintage. Silva (D) excellent. Sterling good, esp first half. Stones looks class again. Mahrez, his time will come I’m sure but what is Leroy doing to not even make the squad? 3 points, move on.

Stones was excellent.
Sterling looked very dangerous.
Mendy needs to learn to defend.
Mahrez was garbage.
Newcastle defended very well.
Shite game. 3 points - we move on.
International break coming at the right time for a change....Pep needs to work hard on them, as the passing picked up where we left off at Wolves - nothing like last season.

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
worst 2 city players on the park for me were Fernandinho & Jesus. What is wrong with Ferna keeps getting caught out and cant pass 5 yards at the moment. Jesus is so wasteful even with simple chances, He really needs to sharpen up his finishing if he is to be a top striker.
City look so slow and laboured at the moment. Maybe the international break has come at the right time. It was after that last season we put in some top performances, starting with the 5 v Liverpool 6 at Watford & 5 at home to palace all without reply.

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
Biggest difference to last season is the tempo is much slower, far easier to defend against. Maybe it’s missing KDB who dictated much of the play?

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
in the first half, after our goal pretty much the passing became sideways and no runners going beyond.
Mendy didn't get past Sterling, mainly due to the way Newcastle set up their defence so that didn't happen. good tactics from Newcastle there to stop them crosses flying in.
At this point we had 2 up top and no service going in, should have moved Sterling right, Jesus to the left and Mahrez into KDB's position. We needed a 3rd in the middle to help try and unlock their defence, too much on Silva to play both his and Kev's roles together.

Without a shadow of a doubt...and, he knows how to take a fucking corner!!!!Paulpowersleftfoot wrote:Biggest difference to last season is the tempo is much slower, far easier to defend against. Maybe it’s missing KDB who dictated much of the play?
How hard is it??? The corners this season have been awful.

Re: CITY vs NEWCASTLE
When Pep brought Jesus off for Bernardo, we suddenly looked more balanced and Sergio seemed to have more space. However, Mahrez has started just like Bernardo did - get the ball one on one with a defender, then cut back inside and play a simple pass.Moonchester wrote:in the first half, after our goal pretty much the passing became sideways and no runners going beyond.

He'll need time to adjust - but I really expected a little more from him.
