Wednesday Gossip
News outlets the world over are of one opinion when it comes to City news this morning.
They all reckon were are poised/on the cusp/about to (delete as applicable) 'swoop' for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, but there's a distinct difference in the way it's being reported.
Football news web sites are not renowned for their depth of coverage - get it up there quick is the order of the day, and you'll struggle to find any saying anything original. The World Game and ESPN are fairly similar, but one or two others claim that the Argentinean's possible arrival would trigger the departure of Adam Johnson.
The First Post (it's a new one on me) say that Chelsea are eyeing the England winger - but reading into it they are reporting something that TalkSport first came up with. Hmmm, it's a tangled web alright, and as ever you be the judge.
If you want a bit more depth, then the UK newspapers are the place to head for. The Guardian's Danny Taylor says,
"Sergio Agüero will fly into England on Wednesday to become Manchester City's showpiece signing of the summer after a significant breakthrough in the talks with Atlético Madrid.
"A provisional deal has now been arranged with the Argentina international after the club's chairman, Khaldoon al-Mubarak, took the unusual step of becoming involved in the negotiations with Atlético. Agüero would cost in the region of £38m, making him the most expensive player in City's history and second only to Fernando Torres in the Premier League. He has signalled that he is keen on the move."
The "storm" over Mario Balotelli's backheel in LA is still rumbling, with the Telegraph's Jim White weighing in with a witty and thoughtful piece.
"The best response to Mario Balotelli’s hapless showboating in Manchester City's friendly against LA Galaxy this week was to giggle." Quite - worth a read, though.
