Napoli v City CL - Live Thread
First topic message reminder :
OK....so only 2.5 hours to KO.
Gonna be a really tough night tonight, but one that will test us both footballing wise and mentally. I'm sure the atmosphere will be intense and with such a young team, I doubt many have experienced something like this.
We must go all out for the win...get top spot secured tonight to give players a rest before some big PL games. A draw would also be a decent result, but we should be having the mentality that we will win this.
Plus, I think one or two are on their final yellow cards, so a yellow tonight they miss the next game, so better to win and some miss the next group game, than carry this forward....at least that's what I think is the situation.
For me, strongest team available.
Ederson
Walker, Stones, Ota, Delph
Fernandinho
Sterling, KDB, Silva, Sane
Aguero

I think Sterling could be the complete player if only he could score more

Firstly, a massive congrats to Sergio. Some record to beat in only 6 seasons.
Secondly, Raheem Sterling. What a mature performance tonight. Add to that, Leroy Sane. Wow...that's all I can say on that performance, away to Napoli after going 1-0 down.
Ferdy...in the near future, we'll be very lucky to get a player as good - which makes the Phil Fuckwit's comments on Radio 5 Live, even more embarrassing.
Thought Stones was immense tonight. Delph has been nothing short of a massive surprise. How great must he be feeling right now playing in this team?
Ederson? His passing is simply incredible.
KDB had a solid game overall.
Gundogan not so great.
Silva came on and did what he always does...never loses the ball.
Otamendi...loves a last ditched dive in still! But I'm sure we'll forgive the General for his goal.
Danilo actually looked better in the 2nd half as they tired, as Isigne was giving him a lot of trouble.
Pep...you're simply a genius fella.
Loving this.
Oh, and a massive well done to Spurs! I hate Real Madrid, so great to see them give Real a battering.
Happy days....Shakhtar only 3 points behind and Napoli desperate for a win against them.
Happy days.....lets hope this continues on Sunday....brilliant away performance.

My 92 year old dad is dancing round the front room (well almost), About Sergio, he remembers watching Brookie back in the 40's and says it's about time.

Twitter going into meltdown. Some brilliant and funny tweets.
Poor Ollie Holt...a City fan of sorts. He tweeted in 2011:
"Aguero will be highest profile signing of summer so far if it happens. Still think Charlie Adam to Liverpool could be the best though"....
Poor Ollie is getting dogs abuse...even Coral tweeted "Now is a good time to say....
And retweeted it!!

One of the tweets was:blisteringblue wrote:Sergio interview in total English, good lad
"Great to hear Sergio Aguero give an interview in English. I understood more from him than I did in Harry Kane's"
Twitter is shite sometimes, but on some nights, it's brilliant!

Re: Napoli v City CL - Live Thread
And then you have The Mirror:
Ederson 7
No chance with either goal. Kept his cool under early pressure
Danilo 5
Given tough time in his first Champions League start for City by Insigne
Stones 7
Composed on the ball. Got forward to offer real aerial threat
Otamendi 8
MOM Excellent game as leader at the back and going forward
Delph 6
Keep pinned back in his left-back position by Napoli pressing
Fernandinho 7
City captain took enforcer’s role to break up home side’s pretty passing
Gundogan 6
Got forward well but failed to produce in final third
De Bruyne 6
Relatively quiet evening for the Belgium playmaker
Sané 5 -WTF???
German did not see enough of the ball. Gave away penalty
Sterling 6 - WTF???
Had little joy against Ghoulam but prospered when Hysaj switched to left-back
Agüero 6 - WTF??
It took a while but finally the richly-deserved record arrived.

From twitter, but I can’t argue with this:
“Plan A is beat Feyenoord whilst Shakhtar don’t win in Naples ! Qualify as winners then send the kids to Donetsk 3 day’s before derby day

MEN:
Ederson
Misplaced a pass for the first time in recent memory. Otherwise, Mr Dependable was exactly the cool head Manchester City needed to survive the early onslaught 8
Danilo
Showed off his defensive capabilities, even if he didn't get much chance to link up with Sterling. A very useful player to be able to bring in for Walker. 7
Stones
Frantic defending to help limit the damage early on and vital contributions in both boxes.. Hit the bar with one header and then thundered one in off it to give City the lead. 9
Otamendi
Still has a moment of madness in him but composed and decisive at the back for most of the game. Towering header got City back into the game after a chastening first hour and got their spirits up. 8
Delph
Has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, a skill that proved especially useful with more stray passes than usual. 8
Fernandinho
An outstanding season continues. Glided around the pitch putting out fires and vital to ensuring they controlled the second half by always taking the right decision. 8
Gundogan
Handy at turning defence into attack in a flash, was important in breaking up Napoli attacks and offers a more direct threat than Silva. 7
De Bruyne
Could barely get his foot on the ball in the first half and struggled to find a teammate when he did. Improved as the game went on even if he seemed to miss Silva alongside him. 6 Think that's unfair as he only was poor for 20 mins!
Sterling
A menace whenever he picked up the ball, happy to take defenders on and shoot on goal. Threatened Napoli in the first half when no other Blue did and kept up the intensity throughout. 9
Sane
A quieter game for Sane, one of a number of players who struggled to keep the ball. Culpable for the penalty, even if it did look soft, but a terrific run for the third. 7
Aguero
Had to fight for scraps up front but kept Napoli's defenders occupied in an industrious performance and took his goal brilliantly to win the game. 8
