Shakhtar away
First topic message reminder :
CLE
Contrary to popular opinion it looks like we won’t be sending the U12s over there to rest everyone for the derby
Only 2 first choice players not traveling are David Silva & DeBruyne who’s serving a totting up ban anyway so it looks like Pep wants to keep the winning streak going which is good news for myself and the other daft feckers travelling to the Ukraine on Wednesday
Travelling squad
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Bravo, Grimshaw
Defenders: Walker, Danilo, Kompany, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Delph, Otamendi
Midfielders: Fernandinho, Toure, Gundogan, Sane, Bernardo, Sterling, Foden, Diaz
Forwards: Aguero, Jesus
Hologram
Adarabioyo Otamendi Mangala
Danilo Gundogan Yaya Foden
Diaz Jesus Bernardo
Or risk more starters for Sunday ?

Yo-yo has had some good interceptions lately. Looking more confident but he’s just a young mango for me

What a fucking joke injury time me. Cockbadger ref blew up early and gave no time for the penalty and goal. Bastard

And the punch line is that Feyenoord beat Napoli 2-1 anyway so even is we had won they would still be out

Re: Shakhtar away
Massive let down from the 2nd string. Gundogan and Yaya had no kegs for the CM role. Mango has to go as he’ll never get good enough. Yo-yo got better and he still has a chance at 20yo, but I don’t think he’ll make it either. Bernardo wasn’t good enough and Danilo was bang average

Jesus was shocking for me too. Sane didn’t do much. Big pluses from Foden in the first half and especially Diaz when he came on

Re: Shakhtar away
A B-team with a few regulars, the result more or less what I expected. Pep still tried to go for the win within the squad restrictions, shame we couldnt have at least got a draw, but I think the kids had a good run out & hopefully learned a thing or two.

Sorry, but TLMLF should never grace a City shirt again...what a complete waste of space when you have Foden and Diaz in the squad.

Bloody hell...LFC are banging in some goals lately. Thank god we're not facing them in the near future!

Re: Shakhtar away
I think the truth is that our full strength 11 would have to give it all to take 3 points away against Shakhtar, it wasnt a straight forward win at home when we had it all to play for. There are some positives to take away, but the regulars dont have much to fear for the derby in trems of selection vs the B team.

Re: Shakhtar away
The worry for me was the B players. Are they not good enough or do they need some games to get up to speed? Sanchez in January anyone?

Re: Shakhtar away
I don’t think ANY teams B team with kids thrown will beat a half decent CL who have points to play for. Again remind me how many goals & assists Sánchez has this season?

Re: Shakhtar away
Just checked, same number of goals as Otomendi & 2 assists and this for a player who plays every game for arse & sulks if he’s on the bench for a cup game. Get him on a free or not at all.

Ok but 4 goals for someone who always plays when fit.

About what I expected too, no big deal. Listened to most in the car driving home.
I really hope the rags get them in the next round, they could seriously do them over.

Re: Shakhtar away
Bernardo's had quite a few games recently....granted, not a solid run of games and it's first season - however, when Diaz and Foden can do that, how come a £40m player not shine in any of his games he's played?
It's a worry we may have bought another duff....hopefully, we'll see more of his talent in the coming months and next year....but if he doesn't show it and Foden/Diaz do show glimpses, he may struggle.

Re: Shakhtar away
it was telling that Bernardo upped his game once Diaz was on and creating problems down the left.. Diaz again looking very very good.
I was worried that Ederson pulled out of the challenge to avoid a booking or an injury, then he shouldn't have been on the pitch and Bravo should have been given the nod..

Re: Shakhtar away
I watched this game on facebook, of all places! Fox Sports were streaming it, so aside from the usual crappy US commentary, it was a decent stream. I'll be checking on there for future away CL fixtures and they might even show the derby...
I wasn't expecting much from the team that was announced, so when they went 2-0 up I wasn't overly unhappy. Yoyo needs more time to grow, but Mango and Yaya are finished.
Danilo clearly hasn't had enough game time either. But the biggest disappointments for me were the ones who've had game time: Dino was bang average, Mango was woeful, Bernardo was a massive let down (again), Yaya was even slower than usual, Sané was hopeless and Jesus was terrible. Ederson made a few errors, but I sense it was purely down to trying to compensate for the feeble defense he was working with.
But on the plus side, I felt the kids shone. Yoyo struggled at first, but I suspect he'd have grown into the game much quicker if he'd been partnered with Otamendi or Kompany. Foden played well despite being dumped in a totally alien position for him and Diaz looked very much at ease when he came on.
It was a mish-mash of a team who haven't played with each other much in proper games and it showed, badly. But we did have plenty of possession and we did get forward enough to give Shaktar problems, although a goal would've been nice.
But the best bit is watching all the raggies getting over-excited for the derby. They clearly haven't twigged yet that nine of the players who started yesterday won't be on the pitch at the weekend.
