People will be turned off football - David Moyes Empty People will be turned off football - David Moyes

Golum has said that people will be turned off football because of bad refereeing.

piss off golum - it might happen if you keep playing one up front and kick your opponents into submission.

David Moyes has urged the Premier League to take action to prevent the image of football being destroyed by poor refereeing.
The
Everton manager is still indignant about a shocking performance from
match official Martin Atkinson in the Merseyside derby, which cost his
side any chance of victory.
The referee has not been stood down
from this weekend's match list and Moyes claims that while officials are
always hammering home a message about players upholding the image of
the game, it is referees who are now threatening to destroy the
integrity of the competition.
"You know, we keep having meetings
and they tell us the image of the game is vitally important to the
Premier League - the conduct of the players, the conduct of the
managers, to make sure the image is right," the Everton manager
explained.

"But I think at the moment it is the decisions of the referees that
are giving the Premier League a difficult image because people are
saying the decisions were not good.
"The image of the game is not
being tarred by the players. The players are enhancing the image with
their quality. The Premier League has some of the best managers in the
world which is why so many want to manage here. So the players and
managers keep the image up in this country.
"But the Premier League will need to see if they they think they are getting the same from the people who run the referees."
Moyes
believes the English league has got one of the most exciting products
in global football, with world-class performers operating at the very
peak of their powers.
Yet he questions whether the same can be
said of officials like Atkinson, who he believes are in danger of
undermining the incredible product on offer.
And he cites the
Mersey derby as a perfect example of how an expectant world-wide
audience were cheated of the spectacle they anticipated.
How long, he wonders, before it starts turning fans away in their droves?
"Since
the derby all anyone has spoken about is the referee. It is one of the
biggest games of the season, watched the world over and no-one is
talking about the quality of Liverpool's performance or how Everton
played," he added.
"They are talking about the referee's
performance. That is what I mean about the image of the game. It is
being enhanced by footballers in this country and enhanced by the
managers with their quality.
"But I am not convinced the image of the game is being enhanced by the performance of the match officials."
Atkinson
has made no attempt to contact Everton since the derby to explain his
position, nor has he spoken about his appalling decisions in the game.
And
the Blues boss wondered if the official was being protected by the
referees' association, given other refs who blunder so badly are
automatically taken out of the firing line.
"Howard Webb was
dropped down to do Leicester in the Championship the following Sunday
after our game against City, and Mark Halsey has been taken off the
Premier League after admitting his mistake against Wolves," Moyes said.
"I
am not sure I agree with the demotion of referees for their
performances. It might not be the right way, but it seems to me the FA
or PGMO have done that with Howard Webb and Mark Halsey, but not
Atkinson, so there might be one rule for one and one for another."
Everton
visit Chelsea this afternoon with an enviable record at Stamford
Bridge, where they haven't lost in the league since 2006. But Moyes
believes this year may prove harder, given the strengthening the Blues
did in the summer.
"They have added a couple of new dimensions to
the way that they play. Mata, for me, is the biggest difference that I
see in Chelsea," Moyes said.
"Mata is probably as close to David
Silva in the Premier League as what I have seen. He has given them a new
flexibility. They had that in their heyday when they had Wright
Phillips, Duff and Robben.
"We have done well at Chelsea, but they
strengthened in the summer, United stregnthened, so did City, so the
challenge for us, is how close can we stay to the top three because of
that?"

So, 90% whining about the derby ref, and 10% on his teams next game, talk about negative football!!
....incidentally, I don't remember much of the game, or that the sending off was all we were talking about after the game, so it was either a poor game, or soon disappeared from our short term memories once a decent team played some flowing attacking football and didn't try hacking the opposition.....
