Re: Gary Speed dies
Unbelievably sad. We can only imagine what depths of despair he must have reached to take his own life.
Like you say Topdawg, sometimes football doesn't matter.
Hope you find peace Gary

RIP Gary, combative player but not dirty, and was making great strides with the welsh side

Re: Gary Speed dies
You spend the morning thinking 'are we gonna win this, are we gonna win that...?'
Then this news comes through and none of that matters anymore.
RIP.

Re: Gary Speed dies
Yeah, very, very sad news. I heard it on the way to my sons football, about 11:30. He lives about 3 miles from me and I'd only just drove past his house when the news broke on the radio. His poor boys.
He did a lot of charity football events at Christleton FC, near to where he lives and always gave his time to everyone who just wanted to chat to him.
Devastating news and I agree, it sort of puts everything into perspective.
RIP.

Shocking news, same age as me too.
You wonder what must have driven him to do such a thing.
I really feel for his family.
the game just seemed so unimportant after I heard, just as I switched on before the match started.

Totally stunned. Watched him on FF & he seemed perfectly happy. He had everything to live for. We may never find out but something must have seriously fucked him up

Everything about a suicide is so sad, especially the circumstances and worry that you must be going through to put you there.
Consistent honest pro and one of those who you get used to being around forever - like a comforting part of the decor.
Rest In Peace Gary.

Re: Gary Speed dies
Really shocking news, never heard a bad word against him as a player RIP.
I really hope the reasons for his untimely death are not the rumours about him being about to be "outed" by the Daily Star. No person should have to feel that death is the only way out of a situation made by others.

RIP Gary, a true proffesional who was a Credit to Wales and every club he served. I have heard the rumours about him, and the supposed reasons he left Everton, but it shouldn't come to this. Very sad.

Hate to ask at a time like this - but what are these rumours? Never heard anything. Furthermore, if they are in anyway true, the fuckers want to be held accountable.....just like the 'phone-hacking' scandal. Disgrace.

some of the stuff i have read from the enquiry is truly shocking and disturbing.
on the one hand we want freedom of the press, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

They aint called the gutter press for nothing. They don't give a fuck about ruining lives as long as it sells their filthy rags ! And I'm not talking about United fans

Seeing Shay Given in bits did me, got upset meself.
You just see them as footballers - you forget they're human.

Shay was really cut up Disaster - made me fill up too. Bellamy must have been the same way as he couldn't play. Can't find the words.

Haven't bought a newspaper for 10 years and in all likelihood with all I am seeing on the news now I never will again.
Now if 40 million of you also do the same I'm sure we will see a change.
Sad sad news but I hope the truth does come out and somebody does get held accountable but I won't hold my breath.

Re: Gary Speed dies
back in 2009 max clifford said he represented two premier league footballers that were gay and he advised them not to come out.
obviously don't know who they were, but this story is doing the rounds on one of the broadsheet websites today.

Heard something last night from somebody close about it. Don't want to post it on here, but if anybody wants to know, PM me. What a sad loss. Still feels a little surreal.

Surely in this day and age no one cares if someone is gay?

Re: Gary Speed dies
You would think so PPLF - but reallistically its not the case. It has a stigma attached to it - especially in sports. You would be embarrased if your macho mates suddenly found out - not to mention fans of other teams. People are cruel sometimes.
