You only have to watch Nani - to see him running back to try and get the ball back...if it was that bad, he'd be diving all over the place - but the key to his sending off is not the tackle - it's Rooney bleating "2 footed" to the cunt of a ref.

He wasn't even going to blow for it until Rooney went chasing the ref, the linesman didn't flag. Now we lose our captain, and rock of defence for 3 games, 4 if we appeal it. Awful reffing, ruined the game, full kudos to City for coming back like they did, but for a bit of luck we could have gone on to win this.
Atleast we can concentrate on the Prem now, small consolation I know, but we found out more about our squad in that game, than the 6-1 win, if they football is played 50% in the mind,50% on the pitch, then this loss will give us some momontum and belief.

The ref was utterly awful. Sending players off so early in a game always ruins the game, but this was a televised spectacle, deliberately given its own air time and he's just used it to get himself some notoriety. What a wanker.

On the plus side, everyone who thinks we're a team of mercenaries with no team spirit and a manager who can't change a game can now shut the hell up. Bobby's changes were inspired and we had the best of the second half, scored two goals and made the end result way more respectable than, say, being done for six.

I have watched the game on three different channels in the USA,and not one person who watched the game has agreed that it was a red card.Two of the reporters were not sure that it was a yellow even,and Fergie has the cheek to say that it was a definite red,how could he see from his position?I just hope that he remembers his comments when it happens to one of his misfits!!

This thing about red cards is getting a bit out of hand in the UK.
In the US and Mexico and Brazil when a red card is issued it is accepted without players rushing at the referee, it is about time that the FA told the ref's to issue yellow cards for bringing the game into disrepute.Players should be made to realise that the ref is not going to change his decision,and they should not be allowed to influence the ref in any way,although that is down to the officials,and that is not going to change.
Compared to other countries our referees and linesmen are crap!!

Watch it to your hearts content.....great jump by Nani, Vinny gets the ball with his right foot, and then Nani chases the ball......of all the players, you would have thought that if HE thought it was dangerous, he would have either fallen over, or chased the ref - a la Rooney.

The ref was in a position where he could only see his left leg...and even then, didn't make any movement to his whistle until Rooney runs towards him.

Terrible decision - but I can't see it being overturned.

Chris Foy did indeed ruin the game. The game of this magnitude needed an early goal to make it a spectacle and it got it, sadly 60 seconds later the ref decided he was going to Kybosh that.

He made inept decisions throughout the game and imo has to be held accountable. Surely their games are annalised afterwards by somekind of refereeing panel. The 2 missed penalty decisions were laughable, Utds probably more than Citys if i'm being honest. The 2 fouls on Aguero by Giggs and Carrick were blatant and cynical but not even a yellow was distributed.

Finally, on the Rooney issue. A rule has to now be introduced that ANY player waving imaginary cards or trying to influance a referees decision (especially by chasing after him) should automatically be given a yellow card. This has gone on far too long now and has to be stopped.

den, there is a rule that players shouldn't surround the ref - the captain can have a word but that's it.

everyone is at it though, there are no saints. at least bobby has told our players not to dive.

That rule though Dawg is never adhered to and players constantly chase and harrass fererees. The refs have to be stronger and start dishing out yellow cards. If they have to go into changing rooms before the game "to remind them of it" they so be it.

Admittedly, Rooney never waved an imaginary card at the ref but he did he did run towards him to make sure he put his point across about it being a "2 footed lunge". He should himself have been booked.

when someone gets their second yellow and sent off, maybe they will learn.

i'd also like to see a yellow card for keeping the ball when a free kick has been awarded or a throw in. players sometime pick the ball up to buy time thus preventing a quick throw or free kick.
