It's interesting that united spent half their money on their defence whilst we spent 75% on our attackers.

Best player on the pitch, and has been the best defender this year, Kompany, a steal at 6m, Best keeper in the prem a paltry 500k!, Zab Man, who uses his greater tactical nouse and positioning sense to thwart the so called stars of other teams, again and again, you could add De Jong to that list of bargains too, and Richards.

I always find it hilarious that we're the ones being lambasted for spending and yet everyone overlooks the small matter that United broke the transfer record when they blew £30m on a defender. And this happened years before anyone else spent that much on anybody!

Considering that, at the time, the costliest defender was about a fifth of that price (and I'm probably being generous there) it does make a mockery of the insistence that they never bought the title.

Not denying it. It was the only way we'd ever catch up with the perennial spending machine across the Irwell. Which, if memory serves, was going to be purchased by Murdoch, he was told to sod off by the FA as it would be a conflict of interest, then suddenly the TV rights are skewed in favour of a trio of clubs who play in red shirts. And at a time when TV money would buy a whole player and not just subsidise one.
