Typical City!
Flickin through the channels this morning ITV4 was showing "The big match revisited". Low and behold it was showing Man City v Chelsea at Maine Rd from Jan 1979, so i thought i'd watch it as this was a time when i first started following the Citizens.
It was great to see the likes of Big Joe, Donnachie, Power, the Futcher Bros, Owen, Barnes, Kidd, Hartford, Booth, Deyna, etc, etc again. The pitch was covered in snow with painted blue lines and they played with a pink ball, how times have changed eh. The commentator Brian Moore said Chelsea were on an a run of 13 games without a win (9 defeats and 4 draws), you just knew after he said that who was going to win.
City were 2-1 up through Ron Futcher and Paul Powers left foot, but despite constant pressure and numerous chances, City just couldn't get a third. 2 goals in 3 minutes by Osgood and Walker handed new Chelsea manager Danny Blanchflower a welcome 2pts.
While watching this it got me thinking, is this when the "typical City" tag came into existance. A game City dominated for long periods, yet somehow managed to get beat.
Great watch though!!!!
