Typical English media...
Just when everyone is a little bit happier, a bit excited, yet more tripe comes out. What a ridiculous story...
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/england/10384676/Roy-Hodgson-forced-to-apologise-in-bizarre-race-row-after-making-joke-about-England-winger-Andros-Townsend.html
We won't win the World Cup, but at least let's go there in good stead, play some good football and have fun. I for one am sick of what the media does to this country, not just in sport.

Re: Typical English media...
It is a ridiculous story, but at least the journo uses the word "bizarre" to at least defuse it a little. Although he does hype it up a bit by not mentioning the space monkey joke in the headline.
I'll bet it was Smalling, taking umbrage at being the butt of the joke.
But you are right, chap. The press are way too quick to pull the house down in this country and then moan when we fail to achieve anything.

Re: Typical English media...
For once I'd like a manager to tell the media to fuck off.
What are we going to have next, players complaining that the manager swore at them!

Jesus, fucking Christ!!
I agree Dawg.....for once, just once....tell them to "go fuck yourself".
If I was Roy, I'd now want to get to the bottom of who leaked it.....and tell them they're not going to Brazil!!

Re: Typical English media...
The good thing about Roy is that he has the media on his side, they seem to like him, he interviews well, handles the pressure well, takes the pressure off the players and gives well-thought straight to the point answers, I think telling them to 'fuck off' might backfire that a little. Although it would be funny, and well deserved.

Re: Typical English media...
Apparently, the journo isn't a sports journo, but an entertainment one!
You know what Jordan, it won't matter whether Roy is savvy with the media or not.....they'll all turn on him eventually like they always do.....it sells papers.

Re: Typical English media...
The thing is, Roy's had to work to get the media on-side already. In the run up to his appointment being made, the press were all over the idea of Uncle 'Arry taking over the job. He was the media favourite: He's English, not too shy about expressing opinion, was famous for getting Pompey to win the FA Cup (glossing over their rapid descent, naturally) and all his International experience gained from, er, taking Spurs into Europe a couple of times.
So when the FA decided to appoint Roy Hodgson as manager, they had a field day. All they saw was another Steve McLaren, a dull manager with a history of playing safe football and conveniently ignoring the fact that he'd taken the Swiss national side to two back to back tournaments after several decades of never qualifying. I thought Roy was a better man for the job, but it seemed that the press (and those who believe their hyperbole) disagreed.
He's even had stick for this qualification campaign, even though he's kind of proved what we already know; the old team were simply not good enough or hungry enough.
Now we've qualified, he's everyone's favourite manager. And when we get knocked out, he'll be vilified all over again.
I'd prefer it if the FA came out and told the press to fuck off. They should be doing more to defend Roy.

Re: Typical English media...
I think the FA know that they are a scapegoat when in terms of the media. They are forever slated, and rightly so on occasions, for making the wrong decisions. They want to stay on the press' side, especially with Brazil fast approaching.
At least a lot of the players, Andros included, have come out and defended Roy and said it was nonsense. I'm sure though, in the not so distant future, we'll have another scandal on ours hands to tarnish our World Cup hopes.
I can see it now;
"Hart beds Roy's wife's best friends sisters cousin - causing rift in the camp"...
Give it a rest!

Re: Typical English media...
Townsend has just tweeted "what's all this about, no offence was taken".
The Kick It Out Campaign have now called on the FA to open an investigation!!
Absolutely bollocks.
The player who leaked it should be ashamed of himself.

Re: Typical English media...
Oh, for god's sake!
At this point, the FA should say, "Yeah, okay, we'll do that." Then they should call in every single person who was in the room when Roy made the joke and advise them they will all receive an indefinite playing ban until the perpetrator owns up.
I wouldn't mind, but even if we did go mental and draw a parallel between "monkey" and "Black man", in the context of the joke, the monkey was the intelligent party who could be trusted to do everything. Wow, Roy called Townsend intelligent! String him up now
Anyway, I'll bet you it was Chris Smalling. I have evidence to prove it:
1. He was the butt of the joke (i.e. the spaceman that had nothing to do but feed the space monkey)
2. It's likely his pride was hurt by articles such as this one, which suggest he's not good enough to play at this level: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/england-2-poland-0-analysis-chris-smalling-proved-he-is-not-an-international-fullback-8882461.html
3. He is of Black origin, so he would be of the right demographic to be offended by the term "monkey", which would add weight to the complaint. (I should stress here that I'm against racism of any form and, had the term been used in a racist context, I'd be after Roy's head too.)
4. He plays for the rags, and we all know what a bunch of precocious, ego driven bad losers they can be.
5. His mentor is camel chops. 'nuff said.
That's my case for the prosecution. Smalling, upset at being the butt of a joke in the dressing room and humiliated by press reports that he simply isn't good enough, decided to hit Roy where it hurts and play the race card. Joy. And I wonder if he'll come out and attack Townsend for defending the manager? No doubt using the considerably more offensive term that his mentor used to describe Cashley Hole. You know, the popular dairy treat, coated in a cocoa based confection, that used to be served in cinemas during the intermission before they all went multiplex-y...

hahaha....but it WASN'T a joke....it was an anecdote.
Do the simple thing, let the others do what they do best. No doubt after Smalling came out with the ball thinking he was Vinny K!!
Even Rooney has tweeted saying it's all nonsense......wonder if Rooney will have a word with the culprit??

And exactly the reason I have not bought a tabloid for over 15 years. It's a shame the rest of the country don't do the same, that would put a stop to it.

When I played if the manager did not swear at us we knew something was wrong.Woy should put his foot down and when he finds out who blew the whistle he should definitely kick him out of the Brazil squad, thus proving that the team is bigger than the individual. The majority seem to go with Smalling, well if he is better than Richards, Robin Hood is turning out for Forrest next week!!

Thanks! I'm certain the beard did 75% of the work in the interviews - so it's here to stay!
It's for a Projects & Relationship for Dunlop. I got made redundant in September, and basically said in 1 week you're gone, then luckily they asked to keep me on for a month so I leave on the 1st and start at the new place on the 4th. All worked out rather well..

Well done on the new job, Jordan!
It seems my belief in Smalling being the culprit is shared by many. What a joker. However, in brighter news, the FA have been out in support of Roy, and basically told the Kick Racism Out mob that they've had no complaints from any of the players. So that ends that, hopefully.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24577352
Roy makes a very astute point in the article too, basically saying they should be enjoying this period and instead they get this rubbish. Good on him.

The trouble is the sole aim of any media company now seems to be to bring down successful people. Any scent of blood and it is all they want to do.
Nothing is celebrated in this country anymore. We can't say what we want because it may upset somebody.
We really do need to be more like the French! They take no shit from anybody.
