What formation would you like next season?

We won the league with the 4-2-3-1 formation and struggled this season with it.

We needed width and Bobby has flirted with a 3-5-2 with the full backs providing the width. This is all well and good, but the full backs tend to be extra men rather than having the ability to skin their opposite full back and put a telling ball into the box.

The 4-2-31 does work but you need to have the right personnel for it. Nasri and Tevez aren't really wide men in my book.

We could go the 4-3-3 route that has been suggested in the press over the season especially with the new Spanish guys in charge. That can work well but, once again, you need the right personnel to be able to play it well. Utd can do it because they play with two out and out wingers but we haven't got anyone to do that just yet.

4-1-3-2 or 4-1-4-1 can work but you need a top class man as the DM and wide men prepared to work hard for you and at least one bug man up front.

If Bobby stays, maybe we'll see that 4-3-2-1 formation where we don't really attack again...

Frankly, I don't care what formation we play, as long as we put the right people in those places. We don't have any truly wide men, so 4-3-3 would seem to be a preferable option, or perhaps the 4-4-2 with the diamond formation in the middle that Ancelotti likes to employ.

Not that any of it matters, because for any formation to work we need the forward line to do something really unexpected, like actually move forwards at a speed that wouldn't give passing turtles a chance at overtaking. Or maybe having a crack at goal instead of farting about in final third. Or even getting people into the box for the ball to be delivered to them might be a radical idea...

We need to play Yaya in an attackin midfield role for starters.
