This is not America!

So I caught this little article on the BBC this morning:

Hull City are renaming themselves the Hull City Tigers.  Apparently, the word "City" is too common for the new owners and they want something that makes them stand out.

Isn't it bad enough that Rugby League got messed up with this Americanisation nonsense?  Are we going to see more of this nonsense at other clubs?  I've already heard Cardiff are planning to change their City part to Dragons.  What next?  Plymouth Pirates?  Wigan Warriors?  Everton Mints??

It's tough for the fans to take but this guy got them out of administration, stuck a few quid to get them promoted. This is his payback.

I mean, we had to give up our stadium name for the new owners...

Hull have been known as the tigers as a nickname since formation as far as I am aware, so I don't think it is an Americanism driven thing although it does sound like it.

Do not forget though ,that we are starting a team called New York City.

True, but QPR had the same thing, but they weren't renamed Queens Park Super Hoops.  Also, we didn't give up our stadium name as, before it was called The Etihad, we used to shuffle between COMS and Eastlands, we never really had a proper name for the ground.

True, they were always the Tigers, but that's their nickname and not their team name.  Imagine if this went on any further, we'd have Manchester Citizens, Manchester Red Devils, Bolton Trotters, Brentford Bees, Bournemouth Cherries...  Tottenham Yids.  I mean, come on, let's be sensible!

True.  Perhaps they should've been called New York Sky Blues, more in keeping with the MLS.

I'm sure the majority of their fans would take the name change and promotion rather than administration and relegation.

It's like my kids. the missus buys them toys before they have been good lads. Suffice to say, they aren't good lads after they've got their toys.

I honestly think fans saying they are going to see the tigers play does not sound to bad better than Scunthorpe!!!!!!!! if you get my drift? Thinking about it actually that's the red scum in disguise.
