Martin Demichelis Medical

Sky sources understand Atletico Madrid defender Martin Demichelis is having a medical ahead of a move to Manchester City.
The Argentina international, predominantly a centre-back, would reportedly cost City around £4m and provide them with a veteran replacement for Kolo Toure, who left for Liverpool earlier this summer.
Boss Manuel Pellegrini is seeking reinforcements at the back, with Vincent Kompany likely to miss the next six weeks and Matija Nastasic only just back after a hamstring injury.
The Chilean was interested in Real Madrid's Pepe but now turns his attentions to a player he knows well from their time together at Malaga.
Demichelis only signed for Atletico two months ago after the expiry of his deal with Malaga, for whom he played 83 times, scoring eight goals.
The 32-year-old played nearly 250 times in Germany for Bayern Munich and has 37 caps for his country.

Re: Martin Demichelis Medical
I'm not sure what goes on in theses people's heads
Why get rid of 28 yr old NDJ for £4m, spend £30m on another 28yr old Fernando, get rid of the 32 yr old Kolo Toure on a free transfer and then pay £4m for an even older Demichelis who hasn't played in the PL !!!
I'm pretty sure my 14yr old daughter who knows nothing about football could do a better job in our transfer dealings

That's been puzzling me as well. And he's been playing well for Liverpool too, which is even more irritating.TMG wrote:Why ... get rid of the 32 yr old Kolo Toure on a free transfer and then pay £4m for an even older Demichelis who hasn't played in the PL !!!

NDJ was sold because of KiaOra and not for football reasons, I think that much is obvious now.
But 4m is chump change at the end of the day, but I would have just kept Kolo in all honesty

Especially when Demichelis went to Athletico on a free transfer only 2 months ago. We have MUG written all over us !!

And we're chumps for paying it. If we really wanted this guy from the start, surely getting him for free in July would've been the best option?blisteringblue wrote:But 4m is chump change at the end of the day

Maybe he wasn't on our radar at the time because we didn't have a CB crisis in July?

Re: Martin Demichelis Medical
But we did have a CB crisis in July, that's the thing!
We knew, we ALL knew, we have just two CBs we can rely on, and we had three other players who could be thrown in if we were stuck. Of the three, we had Can't Kick Lescott, Crystalli Richards and Soon To Be Sold Kolo. Add to that Nasty's pre-season injury and we were down to ONE CB before the season even started. So I'd have called that a crisis.

Add to that Vinnies propensity for the odd red card and a few weeks out with injury and any1 with any sense knew that defenders should have been the priority

Exactomundo! This really wasn't rocket science and if we were always after this guy, we should've got him for free in July and used his signing on fee to actually pay him.

Re: Martin Demichelis Medical
You are right we all thought that we needed cover in the CB position especially when Kolo was sold but i'm not sure why he was sold before cover was brought in first. However, it wasn't until Vinnie AND Nasty both got crocked that the extent of the lack of cover became glaringly obvious to those in charge for some reason
