In Shaken's Honour.....Who is your 2nd team?
They can be a lower division team you follow, non-league, a team you liked when you were pre-City......whatever the reason. But add why you follow them or their results.
Obviously we have Wensdi and Shaken with SW and Bury...but why?
ME - 2 teams really.....I always look out for Ross County and East Fife.
Now.....East Fife. Remember those scratch off football cards that the pubs/legions etc use to pop round on an evening, Sunday etc....my old Nan used to always get me to write her name - Edith, on East Fife...she was Scottish.....and a lucky bugger.
Ross County - in the mid 90's, a few friends from my local pub (Robin Hood) in Hazel Grove, used to have a place near their ground....and I took a then GF up there to stay. We went to watch a match and there must have been 250 people there...but the banter in the pub afterwards was brilliant....and from then on....they've always been my second team....and look where they are now!!!!

Bloody Hell PPLF same as me. Lived in Macclesfield till I was 11. I actually played for Macc Town Under 11s back in the day. Went quite a lot in the previous non-league days.Paulpowersleftfoot wrote:Macc Town

Being a sweaty sock though (came to Macc when an impressive 12 months old) I also follow Hearts being from just outside Edinburgh and the like.

I had a spell of following Stockport County....only because all the guys in my local supported County and City....so as mentioned earlier in a post....followed them through all the Cup rounds, Chesterfield etc to the Semi's against Boro...."Super, Super Kev"....great times...County and Grimsby away for City...

Re: In Shaken's Honour.....Who is your 2nd team?
Moved to Holmes Chapel in 79 so only went to the odd few games after that. Moved to that London in 87 and closest team there was original Wimbledon. Went there quite a bit just for the crack when not playing football. But I carried on playing Saturday Football into my early 30s. Just old and FAT now though

Crickets easier to play when you're old and a chubster

Re: In Shaken's Honour.....Who is your 2nd team?
Radcliffe......shagged a great girl from Radcliffe.....must've been 88/89. She was very posh....worked with my best mate from Burnage. His then GF worked with them as well. As you do....night out, trying to fix up some rough arse Wythy lad with this posh bird.shakencity wrote:I used to play semi-pro for Radcliffe, but it was 1987/8/9 .Jordan wrote:Used to watch Radcliffe Borough a lot when I was younger.

Anyway, night in Manchester went well at Lloyd's and Brahms n List....I was staying at my mates parents house. We all walk his GF home, around the corner from his house....get back to his. She's supposed to be staying with her friend, but comes back with me.
After he goes to bed.....we're downstairs...and .......you know.......
I walk her home to her friends house....get back to my mates and go to sleep in his room.
Next morning.......I come down stairs for breakfast.......only to find that his old man had found her knickers behind 'his' cushion, on his favourite chair!
He holds them up in front of his wife, me, my mate, his sister and his younger brother....and asks "who's are these?"
Radcliffe.....happy days!!!

Oldham and Bury were the nearest to local teams where I grew up in Middleton, so I always look to see how they are doing. Now my local team is Partick Thistle so I have a soft spot for them rather than the old firm, can't be bothered with their baggage really.

Re: In Shaken's Honour.....Who is your 2nd team?
Christ, I go away for a couple of hours and a perfectly innocent thread turns into a smutfest
Anwyay, I've always kept a keen eye on Oldham. I was born and raised there, which isn't the reason in itself, but I did have a mate who supported them and I used to go to matches with him back in the late 80s. I went all the way to Wembley with them to watch the ill-fated League Cup final against Forest, but the weirdest was the FA Cup semi at Maine Road, the only time I went there to not watch City! The last Latics match I saw was the friendly we played against them last season, but the last competitive match was the last game of the 89/90 season when they were promoted as second division champions. Most likely something Wensdi won't appreciate very much!
And yet, very weirdly, I also have a bit of a soft for Wednesday, having lived in Sheffield for a few years as a student. I shared a house with an Owl for two years and he HATED the Blades. I told him I was a City fan and his response was class: "Well, that's two of us that hate fookin' United then!"
