Do you twitter or facebook?
Just been on the OS and another competition is just for twitter and facebook users. Is that the way the world is going?
I have to admit to being on LinkedIn, but I hardly ever use it.

Re: Do you twitter or facebook?
I use facebook to keep up with distant relatives. I used to do more with it years ago, but nowadays it's a dull stream of mildly amusing memes interspersed with moans about trams and weather.
I joined Twitter to get a free day pass for Sky Sports and I joined LinkedIn because the company I work for suggested it as a good thing to do. I don't use either of them.
Frankly, social media isn't working, there's just too many knobs spoiling it for everyone else, which is probably why they're turning to organisations to keep them relevant.

Don't use either and quite frankly never will.
The Mrs uses facebook but rarely replies to anything her mates put on. She tells me some of the things they've put on and it makes me fuckin shudder....things like:
"In Bar n Grill havin a meal"
"Just booked to see Michael Buble, can't wait"
"Paul scored a goal today, i'm so proud"
"Havin my nails n hair done in a minute, so excited"
FUCK OFF AND GET A FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

The other reason I got facebook is to keep an eye on the kids, but they don't use it any more, they're all using snapchat and instagram. Don't ask... I work in IT and I've not got a clue...

But the club insist on it. Not that it makes much difference about the competitions, but why insist on these methods only? Can't vote on stuff or enter comps. Fucking stupid.

get in the 21st century guys...i don't use them to post stupid comments like where i am etc...and i agree, i detest all that nonsense.
but if the club insist that's the only way to do it...just set up an account so you can enter......or don't bother entering and then complain about it.

There's no upper limit on a facebook or twitter account, neither cost you any money and nobody is saying you have to use either of them. Hell, like I said before, I signed up to twitter just to get a free access code for Sky Sports, I don't bother with it other than that.
The club isn't forgetting you. You're the one choosing to be left out.

I'm managing the implementation of a new CRM system and 'Paperless Office' in Dunlop....you lot sound like the culture here.
It's amazingly difficult trying to change the culture of a business that have done things the same way since 1996. I'm stepping on a few toes and they aren't happy. People just don't like change...unless you're a PM evidently.
This is how I feel...

Embrace change....change is good...that's why we are here debating all kinds of shit...over the Internet...would you rather pen a letter? How much would that cost to write all your posts?????
Change is good...
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Apple Inc.
“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. As well the minds which are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.”
“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.”
“Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.”
Come on people....social networking serves it's purpose...

Re: Do you twitter or facebook?
Good luck with the paperless office, Jordan! The company I work for has been pushing it for seven years, we've already burned through LiveLink, which is a big steaming pile of crap, and we're now pushing SharePoint very hard, which is less crap, but still suffers from the usual foibles of, why does it refuse to sometimes check documents out, or why won't it update the version of a file when it's got the same filename, or the real biggie, where the hell is the document I'm looking for?
We're now on a Zero Email trip, so everyone who hates Instant Messaging is now being forced to embrace it. And Dawg would particularly hate working here, because we have our own collaboration centre which is a rip-off of facebook.
I'm just glad I don't have to push this lot on people any more. Email was a hard enough sell back in the day...

It was just so easy and straightforward when you just used your email and password to enter competitions or they had voting buttons for POTM etc.
The only reason for the current requirement (retweet or like on facebook) is to pretend there is a bigger following than there actually is. It's all plastic bollocks.

Come on Dawg....even in aviation, the majority of our pilot community now have EFB - Electronic Flight Bags. It reduces clutter, makes instant data available when needed and free's up time to concentrate on more pressing matters.
I've got over 1400 LinkedIn connections and I guess that 25% of my business connections/contracts have started from this medium.
Yes, to use these mediums can provide individuals with a forum to promote absolute bollocks that 'most' people couldn't be bothered to read...but it does serve an important purpose for progress.
So as the saying goes..."catch up, or get left behind".

Re: Do you twitter or facebook?
Sorry for hacking your post to shreds Bluey, but I needed to get to the salient points. You're totally right, all change is good, even if we don't see it at first. If we didn't push boundaries and try new things, we'd all be running around butt-naked, scratching the earth with the arse bone of a giraffe, with no concept of things like language or music. Or football. How shit would that be?blueboy wrote:Embrace change....change is good...that's why we are here debating all kinds of shit...over the Internet...would you rather pen a letter? The problem with facebook is that it's original intentions have been lost. It was supposed to replace the forum and be a place for like minded people to meet, but instead it just became a free version of Friends Reunited. And because of the security issues, everyone locks down their profile and ignore requests from people they don't know.
I don't think we've ever found a decent replacement for a well-run forum.

To annoy others.....if you own an IPhone....go to the apps and download Genie.
I've just spent 20 minutes with my family trying to fool it.
Guess the name of any person.....and within 20 guesses it will get it....we tried:
Barry Chuckle
Sandra Bullock
Grant Mitchell
Alex Turner
Sven
just to name a few....Dawg, it'll pass 10 minutes if you're bored of FB or Twitter.

Re: Do you twitter or facebook?
But it's just as easy on facebook! You log on with your email and password and then enter competitions and click on poll votes for whatever. How is that any harder than doing it on the OS?Topdawg wrote:It was just so easy and straightforward when you just used your email and password to enter competitions or they had voting buttons for POTM etc.
The only reason for the current requirement (retweet or like on facebook) is to pretend there is a bigger following than there actually is. It's all plastic bollocks.
But for those who run the OS, it's easier to use facebook as it has all the pre-programmed widgets in a basic format style. They don't need to program a poll widget to match the look and feel of the OS, they don't need to configure back-end databases to handle the data and they don't need to build, run and maintain a massive infrastructure to handle the million-odd user accounts. Facebook already provides all these facilities, for free. Plus, facebook already has 85% of City fans already registered! It's a quick win.
As for plastic bollocks, they buy merch, and merch keeps the big bad FFP wolf from the door.
Look, we knew this would happen eventually. It's part and parcel of the success we're driving for.

Bollocks to facebook and twitter, i have seen so much grief caused by both.
These advances would no doubt be wonderful, if only they weren't the domain of all the scum-sucking mouth breathers in society.
I don't give a rat's arse if you call me a dinosaur or a luddite, whenever i hear the word twitter I just get camel face's image in my mind.
And I still enjoy writing and receiving letters.
Each to their own, I say.
But, for your information, I think you'll find that I am completely right in my view, and anyone that disagrees is wrong.

Re: Do you twitter or facebook?
This is the main forum I use these days. I do a little bit on a couple of non footy sites.
Yes, I knew the club would have to attract new fans. The oldies would stick around pretty much whatever. I saw it in the price for a trackie top in the club shop at £90.
Doesn't mean that it's right and that progress is always for the best. The atomic bomb being an example where many would believe that the progress wasn't worth it.
The OS had POTM by voting in the past. I really don't see why they can't just change the names on a template to set up the next months.
I avoided a mobile phone for many years until my business required that I be contactable at all hours. I'll do the same with facebook and twitter. I'll only get into them when business necessitates.

We are "encouraged" to use Linkedin (forcibly is the word I would use). I think it probably works for a lot of people - who seriously network. Can't be bothered with Facebook - but some people are so addicted. Come to think of it I was seriously addicted to the old 606 - but think it's a lot to do with living here but wanting to be back there - if you know what I mean.

I hardly think we can compare facebook to a nuclear warhead, Dawg. Does facebook cause misery to millions thanks to a small number of narcissists who simply don't know when to back off? Does facebook spread itself over as wide an area as possible, inflicting itself on everyone even if they try and hide from it? Oh, wait, it does both of those things...Topdawg wrote:Doesn't mean that it's right and that progress is always for the best. But to be more serious for a mo, the atomic bomb isn't considered progress, it was an abuse of the discovery of nuclear fission in an effort to control the world by fear. Fission itself was the progress made, and as to whether it was worth it, I guess we'll find out when the oil runs out if we have an alternative to nuclear energy.
