Are City a 'big' club yet?
There is no easy definition of a big club. Is it to do with history, size of stadia/support, trophies won etc.?
For me, a couple more years of sustained trophy winning, a bigger stadium will get us there and a CL win will top it all off.
Not that it really matters anyway!

Really not sure how you define a club being 'big '.
Even if you say trophies - how many do you need and when did you need to have won them? Eg: Arsenal, are they a big club? They've won Leagues, trophies, doubles, got a big stadium...
What category of stadium do you have to have to contribute it towards the 'big' theory? Newcastle? Southampton?
It's too subjective to define what makes a big club.

I too don't think there's an easy definition of a big club Dawg, but i do think many other fans of other clubs will see Man City as one at the minute (and i do too), tbh i've always classed City as one anyway.
Of course stadia size, star players, support etc, etc come into play, but imo winning trophies is all that matters.....you win those and that's ultimately what gets you recognised.

I don't think it's about stadium size or fan base as these tend to increase as a club gets bigger. And it sure as hell isn't about trophies or Chelsea would still be fighting off Nottingham Forest for "bigness" supremacy, and yet would Forest be considered big these days?
I think a "Big" club is one that's feared by other teams. The team that everyone else either wants to avoid entirely or really relishes the challenge of facing. I think we're getting into that zone now as we definitely see teams lifting their games against us - like Newcastle and Palace as recent examples - and there's even a kind of hushed awe about the upcoming game between us and Barca, a draw I think was forced because UEFA wanted to guarantee such a fixture would happen, but couldn't rely on both of us getting into the next round.
Everyone is watching us and everyone wants to beat us. I'd say that this is a better definition of "big".

I think that clubs with big support, that have won trophies at home and in Europe and been in the top League or Division consistently for most of their history can be regarded a "Big club" in my opinion and that makes us a big club even before the current owners took over.

Does that mean the likes of Villa, Everton, Spurs are all big clubs?

Certainly Villa and Spurs but not sure about Everton not a huge support and a pocket sized ground.

How about Nottingham Forest? Won as many European Cups as the rags.blueboy wrote:ManCityMan wrote:I think that clubs with big support, that have won trophies at home and in Europe and been in the top League or Division consistently for most of their history can be regarded a "Big club" in my opinion and that makes us a big club even before the current owners took over.

Don't get that. Everton averaged more than both Villa and Spurs last season and are averaging (with over 37,000) more than both this season too.
As for Goodison (40,221), it's much bigger than WHL and only a 2,500 smaller than Villa Pk.

Above criteria:
Big Support: Newcastle, Arsenal, Leeds, City?
Won Trophies Home & Away in Europe: Forest/Villa/City/United/Liverpool/Arsenal/Spurs/Everton/..to name a few.
Consistently in the top League throughout their history: Villa/Everton/United/Arsenal/Spurs
Doesn't work IMO.
Forest was decades ago, as were Leeds, Everton, Villa, Spurs, even City.
Staying in the top Leagues - this can only be a few teams.
Big crowds - Foerst/Villa/Leeds/Everton don't have massive crowds.
My own personal opinion is that when somebody says "big clubs".....I only think of the following teams:
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Man United
Liverpool
AC Milan
Juventus
I don't even count Bayern, City, Inter etc in that bracket........maybe it's an age thing. Somebody in their 60's who may have watched a lot more football than I have, may differ and add other teams.
It's a subjective opinion.

Re: Are City a 'big' club yet?
Never been particularly fussed about how we're viewed by others, as long as we beat them.
However, the one person I would love to watch admit we're a big club is Perry 'mediocre' Groves.
Check Youtube for his attempted belittling of us a while ago, where he repeatedly said we're not a big club, we're a rich club! Complete twat. For your information, you nonce, I think you'll find we're both a big club AND a rich club.
I'm sure somebody more au fait with technology can add a link to his interview on here.

That's it Blue, you're obviously a techno wizard!
See what I mean? He could be Danny Mills twin brother, a complete twat.

I've just emailed TS as Perry Groves is on with Colin Murray...asking if he thinks we are a 'big' club now!

Re: Are City a 'big' club yet?
I don't give a fuck what Groves thinks. He's a small time player who got lucky with a pundit job, a bit like Danny Mills.
I also don't care if other people don't see us as a "big" club. They can see us as small as they like. Makes it all the sweeter when we win stuff.

Re: Are City a 'big' club yet?
It is subjective but i thought we were only talking about the PL or obviously the above teams would have been mentioned. Actually these are probably huge clubs rather than "big" clubs. At the end of the day it is about opinions and it really does not matter a jot.!
