Ron Vlaar - Worth a Cheeky Punt?
I'm sorry but Rio Ferdinand is right, there has not been a better central defender in the world cup.
How about a cheeky punt? Has bags of prem experience and is likely to want to come and play for us, unlike that mercenary we are sniffing about.

I'm sorry, but Rio ripped swimming hat gob is a bitter rag who can't bring himself to admit that Vinny has been the best centre half in the competition. Belgium conceded three goals in the entire competition, which I think is better than everyone else bar Argentina - if you don't count the penalty shoot-out. Holland have conceded twice as many as that (not counting penalty shootouts). So Rio is dead wrong.blisteringblue wrote:I'm sorry but Rio Ferdinand is right, there has not been a better central defender in the world cup.
If Vlaar was any good, how come he's still at Villa? How come nobody has come knocking with a massive bid? Well, maybe the rags will once van Gaal gets to Salford...

The Argies have conceded the least...well how about a cheeky bid for their newly cropped haired centre half....De Michellis i think he's called?
Vlaar, er no thanks.

Thought DeM has looked excellent in the games he's played in the WC.
To think, come next week, we could have 3 WC winners in our squad.

I know! How good would that be?
I want Argentina to win purely for Zaba. I remember a few years ago, not long after the Sheikh took over, lots of people were saying about how he wasn't good enough to help us get to where we were aiming for. And despite that, he knuckled down, kept his gob shut and worked hard, even when he was getting a battering. To have a World Cup medal to go with his PL medal would be well deserved.
Same goes for Demi as well, actually. He's proved his detractors wrong, too. He's been rock solid in this competition so far and I'll be interested to see how he gets on against the rampant German front line.

Vlaar can't do it every week for Villa so who says he'll put his body on the line for us?

Zaba is, and always will be - A City Legend.
The guy is pure granite...he puts 100% into every single game, even when he's been battered about the head/face/legs/body....he just get's up and carries on.
To top it off, be great for him to get the quadruple....City Player of the Season as well.

As he showed yet again last night, when Kuyt properly flattened him. He got up with cotton jammed in his jowl and fought on. I liken him to the Black Knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail... "It's just a flesh wound!"blueboy wrote:The guy is pure granite...he puts 100% into every single game, even when he's been battered about the head/face/legs/body....he just get's up and carries on.

Well, you should know better than to take the word of a rag twat who once referred to Ashley Cole as a "choc ice". You'd think someone of his ascendency would have laid off the vague Uncle Tom metaphors.

Thought Vlaar was excellent in all his games. He doesn't have the support at Villa that he has in the national team.

I guess he's only called upon rarely when playing for the Dutch but at Villa he's regularly battered. You can't escape from the odd error when under constant pressure.

Van Buten (remember him?) is better than Vlaar but still not good enough for us.

Re: Ron Vlaar - Worth a Cheeky Punt?
I guess we all know, and especially what even Wenger says "don't buy players from what they do at a WC"....and I agree. A lot of player suddenly perform better in better teams, with their mates around them. For me, that's not acceptable.
The likes of Medina, Vlaar, Rodriguez, Sanchez, Origi....all fine examples of players who have been so-so for their clubs teams, yet performed on the WC stage.
I'm happy we aren't going for any of these, though tbf, James Rodriguez does look a little special.
