Ross Barkley
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-city-ready-up-transfer-4305155
I think this is a transfer that needs to happen...we can't rely on Yaya any more and if we got £25m, we should be ready to get rid and invest in this kid.
Yaya's a passenger so far, so he either pulls his finger out or have some real competition.

Re: Ross Barkley
Couldn't agree more. We're about break even now. More sponsorship money coming in and the new extension should be worth over £10M a season to us. The increased CL money (by £20M+) should see us with about £50M a season to spend on transfers.
Next summer, we really do need a spruce up. CM and striker.

Re: Ross Barkley
I notice Everton are putting a value of £50m on him. Can't say I'm surprised, they're very good at overvaluing their players. If we can get him for £35m then I'd say that's the upper limit, but the fact it's been widely publicised we need more HG players, I expect Everton to hold out.

Re: Ross Barkley
I'm sick of givin in to Evertons over valuations....fuck um i say.
Offer what we consider to be top whack (£35m) and if they turn it down....and Barkleys quite happy winning fuck all every season, then fuck um both.

Re: Ross Barkley
I think the fact Everton made him sign a new contract, shows they know he'll be going next summer.
It's a simple sell IMO...."Ross, here's £150k pw and you will take Yaya's role as our MF attacking player"
We don't know whether over the summer he spoke to Martinez and Kenwright and said he wanted to leave if an offer comes in.
We all know £50m is well over-priced, but we will have to offer £35m as the rumours were that we tabled a £30m bid that was turned down.
So if, next summer, we offered what is sensible, then Everton may come under pressure from Barkley saying he wants to leave.

£35m is a fair offer and if they try and hold out for £50m then let the rags or some other mugs have him, we should not be funding Everton's transfers any more.

Re: Ross Barkley
Interesting article with comments from players and manager Roy Hodgson. You've got to sit up and take notice of what these guys are saying (except Hodgson of course).

Re: Ross Barkley
No I dont agree
Barkley is nowhere near as good as Yaya & certainly not worth £35 million
He'll be another Rodwell & Everton will be pissimg themselves laughing at us again
If Yaya is gonna go then Pogba, Schweinsteiger or someone of that ilk would be preferable

Pearce says Ross should stay at Everton.

Citing Rodwell's experience - he hardly figured because he was always injured.

Re: Ross Barkley
Umm....and why's Barkley not playing at the minute?
This may have to be taken into account when any bids are thought about.

Re: Ross Barkley
I think to compare Yaya of last season and Barkley now, is unfair.
I'd take Jack Rodwell over Yaya on this seasons efforts so far....and who's to say Yaya is going to get anywhere near the heights of last season at 31 yrs old?
I'll say it again, I said in the summer we'll regret not selling him when we had the chance.
As for Barkley, I'll personally listen to what the likes of Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Carragher say about him.
He's on another level right now, than the likes of Rodwell.
I've not seen an English player that moves with the ball as quick as he does for a long time...and if it's a like for like buy, I'd have Barkley all day long as a successor for Yaya's role, because there aren't many players in the mould of Yaya in his prime, out there to buy, unless we change our style of play.
If Luke Shaw is worth £30m...then we may end paying close to the £50m for Barkley, which is over-priced, but to get him, he may be worth it for the next 10 years.
Will add though, if it wasn't for the HG quota, Pogba is the one out there that is as exciting and young, but he'd be £60m+.

Re: Ross Barkley
We just don't know about Ross Barkley. How good will he be? Knowing what you do now, £30M for Rooney was a good deal. £12M for Ronaldo was a cracking deal. Bale for whatever Spurs paid for him was fantastic. James for 30 odd million was a great deal for Monaco selling him a year later for £70M.
How good will Barkley be? I think Lampard, Scholes, Carragher and Gerrard are reasonable judges.
If, and it's an if, Barkley were to become as good as Yaya, we'd be more than happy at paying £40M.

Yeah it is a big IF
He's currently injured again and Cd just as easily be another Rodwell
I know any player can get injured but a la Rodders Barkley has already been injured far too often for my liking

Re: Ross Barkley
Agree....it's all unknowns about what he may do in the future, as it is with most players, but when you have seasoned PL pro's basically saying he is the best since Rooney in his pomp and Gazza, that's something else.
And, City have looked at Barkley, not only from a players perspective, but his temperament, attitude, outside football behaviour...and all the pundits mentioned before, his attitude is first class.

Re: Ross Barkley
From what I have seen, Barkley is not much different to Rodwell. So paying over £30M seems a bit excessive.
But all those pundits are far better judges than me. We would be paying for his potential.
When Pogba was leaving Utd. I mentioned in these very pages that we should be trying to get him to sign with us. He's on £35k per week in Italy and he cost Juve £1M. Now look at him. They'd start the bidding at £60M.

If it was a serious question Oz, then I don't think so. Break our transfer record - yes.
I'm not sure if Pogba counts as HG. I don't know if he spent enough time at Utd to qualify. I'd rather spend £40M on him than Barkley.

Re: Ross Barkley
juventus were quoting silly money 60m 4 Pogba, I cant see us paying that unless toure is used as a makeweight in the deal. I don't think Pogba is classed as home grown, but I could be wrong.

Re: Ross Barkley
I seriously don't believe Juve would get £60M for him especially if he wanted to leave. It's not all about money but £100k pw is enough to turn the boy's head when it's triple what he gets now.

That's bollocks. I seriously don't believe we aren't looking at anyone because of FFP. Unless our accounts are a whole lot worse than the board has been saying.

Re: Ross Barkley
I think that's exactly what we're doing, Dawg. If we register a bona fide profit, then the fine is locked at £16m and we enjoy the freedom that Chelsea has currently. And if they change the rules, we have a test case to take to court.

Re: Ross Barkley
It all depends on what UEFA said our final figure was last year. I don't believe that was ever made public so it's a bit of a guessing game.
Maybe we didn't have a choice but to sell Negredo after all.
